Being involved in sport, and caring for people at every level of endeavor is a passion of mine. To care for athletes is therefore a dream come true.
I have worked with elite athletes in almost every sphere, including wheelchair sport, masters level, juniors and elite able bodied athletes for almost fourteen years.
In recent years I have had the privilege to have traveled as team therapist to Europe, New Zealand and interstate with many representative teams. This is where my ability to think laterally best manifests itself. Keeping players confident, happy and injury free is important beyond belief at this point.
As I have also been an athlete myself, I understand the psychology of being able to compete throughout a competition.
Not only is this important for athletes competing outside their normal environment, it has a flow on effect into my practice, when treating people other than athletes. I strive always to have my clients in the best possible condition for what confronts them.
The effects of massage impact on thought processes, promoting blood flow, movement of fluid throughout the body, bringing about healing and both physical and psychological wellbeing.
It is my passionately held belief that massage does not have to be a painful process, and is not merely to be endured. Working within the pain threshold of a client, means that the person is safe and feels a great deal of trust in the therapist with whom they are working.
Humor is also critical in my service delivery. I believe that if a client is able to laugh at his or her pain, it is easier to overcome the fear associated with pain. Many many times, healing comes from understanding the reason for pain, and also relinquishing fear.
Clients are always in control of the process and this is especially important to people who have suffered trauma.
