NATUROPATHY

Herbal Medicine is a universal traditional healing system based on plants to treat and prevent many conditions. Scientific research is endorsing many herbal medicines and enables their use with efficiency and safety. This is a specific expertise of university qualified Herbalists. They are skilled in the philosophy, principles and practice of herbal medicine. Holistic aspects of health, diet and lifestyle are also important considerations. Marilyn has a special affinity with herbal medicine. She initially studied with the Queensland Institute of Natural Science, completed a post Graduate Cerificate in Herbal Medicine and now holds a Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Herbal Medicine), a 2 year post graduate course with the University of New England. The IRIS Naturopathic clinic has an extensive dispensary of "Practitioner Only" Herbal and Naturopathic Medicines. Herbal tonics and topicals are formulated for individual clients.

Weight Management programmes are determined by Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA), a non invasive computerised system that assesses cellular health and hydration. BIA calculates the amount of fat mass compared to muscle mass to determine poor nutrition, obesity or under weight. It accurately monitors progress. Effective diets are chosen to preserve muscle mass. Specific nutritional guidelines for allergies, type 2 diabetes, hormonal problems and other conditions are also provided.

IRIDOLOGY

Iridology dates back over 2,500 years. Patterns and colours within the iris reflect the underlying state of health, strength and weakness of organs and tissues. This indicates inherited traits, acquired problems and likely outcomes. Iridology cannot detect specific diseases, but determines over or under activity of different organs and systems. Digital iridology enables a permanent photo record, comprehensive reporting and monitoring of progress.

BACH FLOWERS

Bach Flower Remedies were developed by Dr Edward Bach in the 1930s to restore health by producing a balance between the physical, emotional and spiritual well being. They can be combined with any other medicine.

MIDWIFERY and BREASTFEEDING

The World Health Organisation acknowledges that midwives are the most appropriate and cost effective health care provider to be assigned to the care of women in normal pregnancy and birth.

Marilyn provides a private midwifery service, focusing on natural approaches during pregnancy, childbirth and lactation. The use of Herbal medicines, Bach remedies, Homoeopathics, Emmett and Bowen Therapy can improve the outcome of pregnancies and births. Marilyn no longer participates in home births.

Being an experienced Breastfeeding Consultant, prenatal and postnatal consultations are available either at the IRIS Naturopathic Clinic or the mother’s home. Suckling difficulty, nipple confusion, nipple trauma, engorgement, mastitis, colic, lactose intolerance, allergies, twins, emotional swings, tongue tie and other problems relating to breastfeeding are addressed.

NATURAL SKIN CLINIC

Marilyn has completed further study to become a registered practitioner with goodskincare by Psoriasis & Skin Clinic which was developed by Dr Michael Trident PHD (Medical Research Scientist) in Melbourne. Conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea, tinea, psoriatic arthritis, fungal infections, herpes simplex, nail infections, miliara, pityriais, vitiligo, etc can be dramatically improved by focusing on identifying, addressing / treating the triggers and symptoms of skin conditions. Goodskincare has developed an effective range of complementary topical and oral medications.

MORE ABOUT MARILYN

Marilyn has over 35 years experience as a Health Professional, initially qualifying as a Registered General and Maternity nurse in 1973 in New Zealand. After traveling and working overseas, Marilyn completed midwifery training in Perth. During this period she also gained intensive care experience at Royal Perth Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.

Since moving to Cowaramup (Margaret River) in 1978, Marilyn has combined professional work with raising four children and voluntary community work (Youth Café, Breastfeeding support groups, New Mothers’ groups, Cancer Foundation of Australia, youth mentoring and others).

Marilyn is passionate about all aspects of health, particularly assisting people to gain optimum wellbeing. Combining post graduate university qualifications with other modalities enables her to utilise natural medicine, nursing, midwifery and bowen to ensure safe and effective outcomes. The high level of qualification in so many different modalities is testament to Marilyn’s commitment towards ongoing professional development.
