Welcome to Joanne Marsh
Why choose a somatic psychotherapist?
As a somatic psychotherapist I provide a safe, non-judgmental space in which to explore those areas of your life that just are not working out. Soma is the body and I work with both the body and the mind. I believe that we cannot separate our mind from our body, that in fact they equally drive who we are and how we are in the world. Many of our deepest fears and traumas are held in the body and I will work with you to unlock them, understand them and release them. Through a combination of talk and body work we will together bring more joy into your life.
Why choose me?
The theory base I work from includes knowledge of trauma, attachment, neurobiology and emotional development.
Over the years I have helped people with a range of chronic illnesses including depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, post traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, diabetes and breast cancer. I have also worked with those that are just plain unhappy and don’t know why, and those that seem to keep having the same thing happen to them no matter how they try to change their situation.
Stress is a big factor in our society today. Through the use of bodywork and body awareness I can help you to learn how to manage it so that it doesn’t impact on your health or vitality.
I also offer couples therapy and like the work I do with individuals, my couples work is based on understanding the dynamics of the relationship, how it is being derailed and how you can get back on track. This involves looking at the "dance" you and your partner get caught up in every time you have an argument, as well as the underlying feelings that are fueling this dance.
Please call me on 0430 025634 to discuss how I can help you to feel more settled in yourself and have a fuller capacity to enjoy life.
What side of town do you live?

Services
What is involved in a consulting session?
Each session runs for 60 minutes. During this time we will talk about those issues that you bring to the session and try together to make sense of the things in your life that are not as you would like them to be. Together we will look for ways, strategies and understandings to bring more joy into your life and to help you better manage relationships
With your agreement, at times we will do some body work together. This may include a number of different massage techniques or simple holding techniques. Body work aims to bring deeper awareness of the emotions held in the body.
At all times you as the client have the right to say no to any form of body work I suggest. I will explain exactly what I am doing and if for any reason you do not feel comfortable I will stop immediately.
How many sessions will I need?
It is not possible for me to say how many sessions you will need as each person is different. Psychotherapy works when we are comfortable with each other and you feel safe enough to share those areas of your life that are not working for you as well as you would like. I suggest we review how you are feeling about the therapy after six weeks. At that time you can choose to continue with therapy or cease.
