Jon van Hoffen practices a range of modalities, the principal ones being Acupuncture, Remedial Massage and Homoeopathy, and has been in practice for over ten years. Before practicing in the Newcastle area he has run practices in Coffs Harbour and Bellingen. Jon often combines multiple modalities in one treatment, depending on the presenting problems. The combination of the most appropriate techniques for your problem will ensure that your problems are treated faster than would be possible with those techniques used as stand-alone, which means that you will be your old self faster than would otherwise be possible.

In his acupuncture treatment Jon uses a gentle Japanese style of acupuncture. With no or very little discomfort to the patient this technique is very powerful. Acupuncture is mainly known for its effectiveness in treating physical discomfort like pain and stiffness and problems associated with the menstrual cycle, but it is traditionally used for virtually all medical problems. In China acupuncture (as an external treatment) is often combined with Chinese herbal therapy as internal medicine, but Jon, as a qualified homoeopath, uses homoeopathy instead. The combined application of acupuncture and/or massage and homoeopathy speeds the healing process up considerably.

Jon uses the full range of acupuncture techniques, including associated techniques as moxabustion, cupping, electro-acupuncture and ear-acupuncture.

Jon does not just treat the presenting problem, but will look for the underlying cause and treat this as well. Usually a number of treatments are necessary, depending on the severity and how long he complaint has been presenting. To make sure that treatment stays affordable Jon has initiated a Multi-bed treatment room at Vitality Junction.


Multi-bed acupuncture

In order to make acupuncture affordable for as wide a range of people as possible Jon has initiated a multi-bed acupuncture clinic at The Junction. With this set-up there are three treatment tables in the one room, which enables Jon to treat more people at the same time. In acupuncture the needles need some time to be effective, and in that time the acupuncturist can attend to other patients. By thus creating a more efficient use of time for the acupuncturist, the fees can be substantially lower. For people who want the individual attention for the full time of the session there is the opportunity to book a private session, against a higher fee.

People on a low income (people with a health care card and full-time students) are given a further discount on the already low fee for the multi-bed clinic.


Remedial Massage

In his massage practice Jon uses a range of techniques. He uses an eclectic approach, combining the best of a range of schools. For muscle and joint problems Jon usually uses a combination of massage and acupuncture, which is extremely effective in loosening up tight muscles, with a minimum of physical discomfort.


Homoeopathy

Jon is a classical homeopath, which means he uses one remedy at a time and generally does not use the combination remedies.

Homoeopathy is a complete system of medicine in itself. Poorly understood by the Medical Professions and little known by the general public it is an effective modality for a range of acute and chronic health issues. In Homoeopathic practice the remedies used are based on a range of substances (mineral, plant or animal-based) which are diluted again and again. Remedies work both on a physical as well as emotional/psychological level and are therefore very useful whenever there is an emotional component (and some practitioners would argue there is in almost any case).

Homoeopathic First-aid kits

Jon has a range of homoeopathic first-aid kits available. They are extremely useful to have around when you have kids, as they will cover the most common childhood illnesses as well as being an effective treatment for the fall-out of the everyday child’s life (bruises/cuts etc).

Jon has diplomas in Remedial Massage and Remedial Therapies, an Advanced diploma of Homoeopathy, a Bachelor of Health Science (Hom) from UNE, and a Masters of Acupuncture from SCU.

He is a member of ATMS and AROH, and is recognised by most private Health Funds.
