SERVICES About Michelle Michelle has always been interested in Complementary Medicine and believes that ultimate health can only be achieved when we return to a place of balance within ourselves. This incorporates lifestyle, attitudes and beliefs, the food we consume and the treatment methods we resource externally to maintain ongoing health and vitality.
This has been Michelle's personal story and led to her discovery of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine as she sought to recover from an illness that crippled her health after studying Classical Indian music in Madras, now Chennai in her early 20's. After returning to Sydney and embarking on a new career in Tourism and Hospitality she never felt completely well and suffered with ongoing health issues. As a personal interest she pursued studies with Dorothy Hall and completed a Diploma of Herbal Medicine and Nutrition with her in 1989.
It was her introduction to Acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatments that helped her to turn a corner and experience a tremendous lift in vitality and health. The complexity and totality of Traditional Chinese Medicine inspired Michelle to shift career gears and in 1995 she graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Acupuncture). In January of that year she traveled to China and trained at the Guangzhou Hospital of Chinese Medicine, learning from professors of internal medicine and pediatrics.
In 1997 she was introduced to Japanese Acupuncture and was very impressed with its innovative style and successful methods of diagnosis and treatments.
In 1999 she completed post graduate studies in the Dr Manaka Protocols of Japanese Acupuncture under the tutelage of Paul Movsessian, Stephen Birch and Jungko Ida. She was fortunate to work in Paul Movsessians clinic in Bondi for a short time. Watching him and learning first hand from him was invaluable for Michelle.
In 2008 she completed a 1 year Certificate in Toyohari East Asian Needle Therapy under the Supervision of Paul Movsessian.
Michelle views Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine as a healing art and believes herself to be a lifetime student of the profession. Her desire to keep studying, to refine and develop her skills is to ensure that she may be of service to her clients and assist them , individually, to reach the pinnacle of vibrant health in this complex age that we are living in.
In 2011 Michelle is undertaking her Masters Degree.

My Philosophy Acupuncture is one of the most ancient and mysterious methods of healing.
The earliest known text 'The Nei Ching or Yellow Emperors Classic of Internal Medicine' was written between the years 2697BC and 2596 BC. Evolving through time as different periods of history added to its refinement and development it finds itself in the 21st century, very much alive and contributing richly to the vast sphere of complementary medicine.
Most major universities offer Bachelor degrees and Post Graduate studies in the field of Acupuncture and TCM and research findings are illuminating its tremendous healing efficacy. The Chinese philosophy underlying acupuncture and Chinese medicine theory is the relationship of man/woman to the universe. They perceive that the inner workings of human beings are reflected intimately in the universal relationships of energetic flow. One of the primary concepts of energetic flow is that of 'chi or qi'
'Qi' is a type of subtle energy which permeates our environment. Modern physicist Hermann Weyl compares the' field theory of matter' to the concept of qi in Fritjof Capras Tao of Physics. According to the Chinese, 'qi' energy is absorbed into the human body via portals of entry on the skin. These portals are formed by the acupuncture points, which are inlets along a unique meridian system running deep below the surface to underlying organ structures. Each pair of meridians is associated with a separate organ system or function.
The Chinese also viewed the universe and the microcosm of man/woman as an oscillation of the forces of 'yin and yang '. The energetic flow of positive and negative, creative and destroying, light and darkness; the concept of duality is a dynamic equilibrium within a universe of constant change, a human body system constantly growing, evolving and dying. These changes follow cycles of nature and subtle innate biological rhythms within our bodies. These innate rhythms are also a reflection of the cyclical nature of the interaction between the five earthly elements of fire, air, water, earth and wood.
In this way, simplistically speaking the Chinese view the human body and understand illness as a separation 'out of a way of harmony and balance'. As the earth becomes sick due to harmful farming methods, excessive toxic fumes and chemicals which like a cancer are destroying the fabric of the basic essential balance of nature, so too our bodies are becoming ill and a range of disease states are the by product of living outside of the realm of essential harmony with ourselves.
We are living in an exciting age where the mind body connection has increased markedly. Modern physics is pioneering our awareness into the inner realm of Quantum Physics and what they are finding is paralleling what the ancient Chinese knew thousands of years ago. And that is, we are all connected to a greater web of life than we thought. Our minds, our thoughts, our emotions play into the sphere of biology, impact it and affect us on a cellular level. We are not just a physical organism separate to our minds, our emotions, to the world, to each other.
We are complex structures and our health and well being is a force in motion
..disease is seen simplistically as a state of blockage and acupuncture and Chinese medicine help to re circuit and establish the flow of 'qi', blood, fluids, nourishment and inevitably innervate sluggish, systems, unblock toxic and burdened organs and re freshen and enliven our organism.
In this way Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine provide a cutting edge, innovative alternative when our health is in an impaired state.

Treatments Japanese Acupuncture
Michelle has found Japanese acupuncture to be a cutting edge innovative style of Acupuncture. It has evolved via years of research and incorporates theories of modern physics and scientific research, bedded with the fundamental concepts of energy pathways and internal circuitry of the body, as is known to all Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners.
Japanese Acupuncture, has as its foundation, the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but the application of the treatments are more refined, pain free and highly successful.
As the basis of Chinese Medicine theory involves the delicate interchanges of the individual with his/her environment the practitioner takes into account certain signposts.
Time of day, season, person's posture and body language, dietary sensitivities, skin colour, tone of voice, abdominal findings, tongue and or pulse signs are all important clues pointing to where in the body the imbalances may be found. Each sign post points to a number of possible clues for the practitioner to determine which system or systems of the body need to be addressed and in which order.
Simplistically speaking, Acupuncture restores where the energy is blocked and re-initiates the body's ability to heal itself. Japanese Acupuncture provides the practitioner with a set of tools that facilitate an effective return to health with a very high success rate. This is experienced by the client as a pain free, relaxing 1 hour, where they feel they are being given the best care.
In the course of treatments you will experience some of the relaxing, innovative approaches of Japanese acupuncture such as ion pumping chords, ion beam devices, electrostatic adsorbers, tonetskyu, chonetskyu and Ondan moxa.
Non penetrating instruments such as inri-shin, teishins, and yoneyama .Silver, stainless steel and copper press studs as well as bio magnetic therapy. Intradermals for the ear and body, which painlessly relieve associated symptoms. Gentle glass suction cups are used to release pressure and tightness of the muscles and/ or innervate a sluggish system. The heating and soothing techniques of the Tiger and Elephant warmers sends clients into a deep level of relaxation.
For those who are nervous about being needled the Toyohari methods of non insertion treatments are available.
Michelle utilizes the research and findings of Dr Paul Nogier, a neurologist from France who is responsible for mapping the ear as a micro system of the body. Small stimulation of these specific points targets precisely the areas being treated and provides ongoing neurological stimulation that has a profound affect on reducing pain and symptoms.
Herbs
Chinese herbs play a prominent support role in Michelle's treatments.
The Chinese herbal pharmacopoeia is a rich storehouse of ancient herbs prescribed to aid in treating a wide range of disorders. It embraces all the domains of nature, drawing from plant, animal, sea and mineral components of the earth.
Chinese herb preparations play a big role in Michelle's fertility programs. For those women who are seeking a natural fertility approach the herbs and the acupuncture restore health to the follicular, ovulating and luteal phases of each woman's cycle. Thus, potentiating the chances of a healthy pregnancy.
Michelle orders her herbs from an Australian company which sources only organic when possible and or the highest standard of herbs from small suppliers in China and Korea assuring you the best quality herbs.
The herbs may be ingested in capsule or granule form.
Michelle has tremendous respect for herbal medicine and its ability to affect organic changes and she offers herbs to each client when she feels it will help them achieve a greater level of health and vitality.
Diet and Lifestyle
The food we eat is our most basic form of medicine. This is well known by the people of far eastern cultures who follow a balanced diet as integral to long term health. Chinese Medicine has an entire system of dietary remedies that embrace eating according to the seasons. The range of disease pathologies associated with each organ system can be alleviated over the long term via dietary alterations.
It becomes a process of eating consciously, knowing the benefits and detriments of the food we consume on a daily basis. Tremendous relief may be achieved through pursuing dietary changes.
When a more complete nutritional plan is required Michelle will refer to Emma Ellice Flint, the Nutritionist in the centre.
When you take responsibility for managing your lifestyle and your health, you can create a new foundation, free of the habits that contribute to your ill health.
Michelle's lifestyle counseling and lifestyle management programs help you manage your ill health and create a more balanced life. Support consists of simple "how to "steps you may choose to embrace.
It may require a change in focus, a shift in attitude or direction to help you move away from experiencing limitation. Michelle will offer suggestions to help you create a happier, healthier foundation for wholistic wellness. Some of these suggestions may incorporate exercise regimes, referrals to other health professionals and assistance in breaking patterns that are harmful to health.

Usually at the end of a course of treatments she will assess how you are responding and if necessary offer further ongoing health management steps for your complete recovery.
