After all, it's your health, and it should belong to you.
Rebecca has experience successfully treating a broad range of complaints including: Men's health, Infertility, Pregnancy and pre-natal support, morning sickness, Irritable Bowel syndrome, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Pre-menstrual syndrome and gynaecological problems, headaches and migraine, anxiety, depression and insomnia, Restless Leg syndrome, Shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia and fibromyalgia. Her special areas of interest are men's health, drug and alcohol detox, infertility, mood disorders and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin, sterile, single use needles into various points along the energy pathways (or "Meridians") that, from Chinese Medicine philosophy, flow through the body. Meridians often
coincide with nerve pathways, and acupuncture "points" with myofascial release points and muscle insertion points. Insertion and retention of the needles helps balance the body's natural flow of energy, relieve pain and address many other disorders and diseases. It's a relatively painless, drug free way of supporting conventional treatment of many biomedically defined diseases. Because the use of needles involves contact with blood on a microscopic level, very strict infection control guidelines are used by acupuncturists to ensure no cross-contamination.
Chinese Herbs can be used either in conjunction with acupuncture, or as a primary treatment. After specific and individual diagnosis, a formula is constructed, combining between 4 and 15 Chinese herbs to suit the problem faced. Here at Journey to the West we use herbal formulae in their purest raw form, house made alcohol-based tinctures or commercially available patent medicines as pills, patches or cough syrups. We present the herbs in their most effective, accessible and convenient forms and ensure that information about contents and cooking instructions is clear and understandable. Most of the herbs we use are plant or mineral derived. We do not use animal products other than sea shells.
Chinese Diet Therapy is very different from Western nutrition. Obviously vitamins and minerals should be taken into consideration but so should our individual constitutional type. Journey to the West offers specific Dietary Therapy consultations with a personalized diagnosis and 6-8 page Chinese Diet Therapy report which includes suggestions of easy to obtain, delicious foods to add in to the diet. We also suggest the removal of certain foods which may be causing more trouble than they are worth. The report also includes a full explanation of the diagnosis, helping clients to understand why it's important to change the diet. Our philosophy is that our suggestions should be sustainable to maintain and adaptable to the Western pallate.
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine can be claimed on most private health insurance for clients who have extras cover. Check with your health insurer to ascertain if you can claim a rebate for our services.
