Pilates for Life is a fully equipped and modern studio offering many classes and courses in Pilates as well as Physiotherapy and other programs including Fit-4-2 pregnancy and mums n bubs exercises classes. Our studio is air conditioned, making it a perfect place to exercise out of the winter cold or the summer sun! We have Male and Female toilets/ change rooms.All of the equipment you will require is supplied by us so all that you need to bring along is a sweat towel.
Class numbers are kept small to ensure quality of teaching and correction of technique.
Pilates for Life owner Kirsten Joyner graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa with a B.Sc. Honours degree in physiotherapy in 1995. 1n 1997 she obtained a post graduate certificate in sports physiotherapy from Manchester metropolitan university, England. She has worked in South Africa, The U.K and Sydney before moving to Newcastle.
Kirsten has had extensive experience in the treatment of backs, necks and sports related injuries. She attended a large number of post-grad courses. In addition, Kirsten has a special interest in Women's health including the treatment of incontinence and Pregnancy related back and pelvic pain.
Kirsten has completed Pilates training through the Australian Fitness Network and is currently completing training with clinical pilates( a pilates course designed especially for physiotherapists). In addition she has completed courses in pregnancy pilates and exercise. 6 years ago Kirsten founded Fit-4-2 physiotherapy this is a pregnancy and post-natal exercise program; these classes incorporate the use of Pilates, fitball and physiotherapy to give pregnant and post natal women a safe and effective exercise class. Kirsten is a mother of two.
What exactly is Pilates ?
Pilates exercises as a whole develop strong abdominal, back , butt and deep postural muscles to support the skeletal system and act as what Pilates called the "Powerhouse" of the body. The Pmethod works to strengthen the core, lengthen the spine, increase body awareness,build muscle tone and increase flexibility. Pilates is also an excellent Rehabilitation system for back, neck, shoulder, knee, hip and repetitive strain injuries. Pilates addresses the body as a whole correcting the body's asymmetries and chronic weaknesses to prevent injury and bring the body back into balance.

Pre & Post Natal Exercises
All Fit 4 2 Pregnancy and Post-natal classes are taken by a Physiotherapist with over 6 years experience in women's health and obstetric physiotherapy..These classes are therefore eligible for a health fund rebate. Don't leave your prenatal health and exercise needs in the hands of anyone but a trained health professional. You will also learn birthing skills , pain relieving techniques for labour and exercises to reduce back pain in pregnancy.
We recommend that you commence the pregnancy classes during the second trimester and continue until the birth of your baby.
The benefits of exercise during pregnancy are:- - Increased fitness and muscle tone
- Stronger, fitter ladies have easier deliveries and a faster recovery after delivery

- Less chance of developing urinary incontinence

- Women who exercise during pregnancy have a decrease in the need for pain relief during labour and a decrease in maternal exhaustion during labour they are also less likely to be induced.
We Also Hire out TENS machines especially designed for childbirth!! A natural alternative for pain relief.
Post-natally pilates is the perfect way to restore pelvic floor and abdominal tone. We recommend that you commence classes six weeks after deliver ( 8 weeks after a Caesarean Section). Babies are most welcome to attend.
