What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of deep relaxation. In this altered state of consciousness a person is much more able to use therapeutic suggestions, explore problems and address issues to achieve effective change.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Although reports vary from person to person, most people experience a pleasant, comfortable feeling of mild drowsiness or heaviness as well as a sense of ease and calm. The altered state is similar to the experience of daydreaming or zoning out.

Contrary to media portrayal, during hypnosis you will be aware of the therapist, their instructions and you will remain in control at all times. You will remember everything that happens when you are in hypnosis. You will not do or say anything in the trance state that you normally would not choose to say or do.

How safe is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring process that does not use drugs. The hypnotic state is maintained by consent between you and the therapist. You can come out of trance or stop the process any time you choose. At all times you remain in control, aware of your surroundings and your body. There are no side effects to hypnosis. Some people are reluctant to leave the relaxed state as they enjoy the experience so much.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Almost everyone can be hypnotised. For some it comes naturally and others improve with practice, but generally everyone can achieve a state sufficient to achieve therapeutic benefit surprisingly easily. As long as you have a desire to engage in the process and trust in the hypnotherapist you will easily be able to achieve this deep state of relaxation. Remember you cannot be hypnotised against your will, nor would any reputable therapist want to do so.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is co-operative process in which the therapist facilitates the client achieving the agreed goal of the therapy using hypnosis. At all times you will remain in control, aware of your surroundings and your body. Hypnotherapy can be used to reduce physical symptoms, increase wellbeing and resolve the past

How can hypnotherapy help?

For many years the techniques and principles of hypnosis have been used to benefit many people. Hypnotherapy has helped many people to stop smoking, nail biting, bed-wetting, to lose weight, to deal with fears and phobias, and to stop migraines. Hypnotherapy can also be used to increase self confidence, improves study and examination performance, reduce symptoms of stress and tension, help with pain control, as well as other anxiety induced conditions. Hypnotherapy has proved very successful for people suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

As you would expect no single form of treatment will work in all cases all the time, but Hypnotherapy can be used successfully in a wide variety of cases, sometimes on its own, sometimes in conjunction with other treatments.

Is a Doctor’s referral needed to see a Hypnotherapist?

No, although it is advisable to speak to your doctor about any physical problem you are experiencing before commencing hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can be a useful adjunct to traditional medical treatment.

What is self hypnosis?

Self hypnosis is the ability to put yourself into this relaxed state. You may wish to do this to reduce stress, to enhance study or sports performance, to reinforce positive motivation. Methods of inducing self hypnosis can be personalised to your particular need and provided on audio tape or CD.

What is Ego State Therapy?

Ego State Therapy is a powerful and effective method of achieving the agreed goals of therapy either using hypnosis or the conscious state.

Ego State theory states that everyone is made up of many different parts. Sometimes these parts of us are in conflict with each other or engaging is destructive negative behaviour or angry and upset by past traumas or events. In hypnosis it is possible to discover and work with an individual part to access and release deep seated issues. This will allow you to move forward powerfully in your life.

This therapy provides a powerful process for personal change to help achieve inner peace, self awareness and self esteem.

Hypnotherapy and Personal Growth

Hypnotherapy and Ego State Therapy are effective tools to harness the power of the subconscious mind to bring about long lasting change. These changes will improve the quality of your life and allow you to discover and explore your untapped potential. Self knowledge allows you to move beyond the limitations of the past and generate a successful future.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of session will depend on the nature of the work you want to do. Some issues can be dealt with in a few sessions, others take longer. This can be discussed on the phone and will be explained in your first session.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $110 per 50 min session. Concessions are available for students and pensioners. Payment by cheque or cash on the day is accepted. No credit card or eftpos facilities are available. If you unable to keep your appointment a minimum of 24 hours notice is required. Late cancellation will incur a fee.
