SERVICES
Optimal health is not just about living without a diagnosed illness. It is about feeling great, happy and full of energy, achieving your goals, and getting the most out of your daily life.
Naturopathy is based on six basic principles:
1. First do no harm
2. Nature heals
3. Identify and remove the cause
4. Treat the person as a ‘whole’ – physical, emotional and mental wellbeing
5. Prevention
6. The physician as teacher
Natural medicine is suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Adelaide Naturopath Kasey Yates has established her practice with the purpose of offering a gentle, investigative and wholistic approach to health care as an alternative to a purely medical and symptomatic approach.
“The body has the ability to heal itself and it is my role to facilitate this natural process with traditional medicine. However, the body can only begin to completely heal when the underlying cause of disease is removed. It is my role as a naturopath to identify this underlying cause, as well as provide nutritional, homoeopathic and herbal support to alleviate any suffering.
I believe the ultimate goal of the naturopathic physician is natural health and prevention. The emphasis is on building health, not just fighting illness. This is done by adopting healthy lifestyle choices, healthy beliefs, and healthy relationships, in every aspect of one’s life.
My prime objective is to return my patients to full health by developing gentle and effective treatment protocols individually suited to their needs. I am personally interested in the impact of modern living on the human body and how to prevent such toxins from overwhelming our immune systems. I will design a treatment path that not only helps remove the underlying cause of the disorder, but also, one that nourishes and cleanses the body, eliminating accumulated toxins.”
Clinical Nutrition – Nutrition is very important, not only for maintaining optimal health, but also for improving sports performance, weight loss, preconception/conception/pregnancy, boosting immune function, developing better concentration and memory skills, and balancing hormones, which are essential for proper sleep patterns, anti-aging, mood swings, body temperature, etc. There are eight main classes of nutrients that the body needs on a daily basis and in specific proportions if it is to build, repair and maintain healthy bodily functions: carbohydrates, proteins (amino acids), fats, water, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and glyconutrients. Poor health can be caused by an imbalance of these nutrients, either an excess or deficiency. Moreover, because deficiencies, excesses and imbalances in diet can produce negative impacts on our physical health, it can also impact largely with psychological and behavioural problems. Heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes are now commonly known as "Western" diseases because these maladies are most common in developed countries, like Australia, UK and USA, where people are no longer eating the healthy amounts of vegetables, fruit and unprocessed foods that we’re meant to. To bridge this nutritional gap in our modern diets, naturopaths provide safe, evidence-based dietary advice and interventions, along with the use of practitioner strength nutritional supplementation.
Western Herbal Medicine – Herbal medicine is the ancient practice of utilising the healing properties of plants and plant extracts to treat disease. People in all continents have long used hundreds, if not thousands, of indigenous plants for the treatment of various ailments dating back to prehistory. Herbal medicine can be prescribed in many forms, including herbal teas, tinctures, decoctions, poultices, tablets, capsules, ointments, essential oils, and distilled herbal essences. However, in this modern time herbal supplements tend to be commercial products in tablet or capsule form manufactured and marketed by the health food industry for sale in retail outlets to the general public. Herbal medicine prescribed and administered by a naturopath are of a high quality standard that are ‘Practitioner’ strength - sold only to HealthCare practitioners for prescription. Herbal supplements are standardised to contain stated levels of active phytochemicals, making them safe, effective and quality assured. However, some herbal remedies have the potential to cause adverse drug interactions when used in combination with various prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals. In particular, many herbs should be avoided during pregnancy. That is why it is always essential to inform your naturopath of any medication or other natural remedies that you are taking.
