SERVICES WHAT IS AYURVEDA?
Ayurveda, or Indian Traditional Medicine, dates back around 5000 years. The word translates to ‘Science of Life’, meaning how we as individuals interact with the universe/environment around us. This ancient wisdom focuses on maintaining your health through diet and lifestyle choices according to your individual constitution.
Ayurveda explains that the 5 basic elements of nature – Ether/Space; Air; Fire; Water and Earth – are manifest in the human body as 3 humors or ‘Dosha’:
VATA is the combination of Ether/Space and Air;
PITTA is the combination of Fire and Water; and
KAPHA is the combination of Earth and Water.
The Dosha each have important roles within the body governing different biological, psychological and physiopathological functions of the body, mind and consciousness, like the nature of the elements each represents.
As individuals - thanks to genetics and the health of our parents at the time of our conception - each of us has a differing predominance of the Dosha. Whilst we each have all the elements of nature within, usually one or two of the Dosha are more dominant. This gives us our ‘Prakruthi’ - balance state or birth constitution.
Ideally your Doshic predominance should remain the same throughout your life. However, this is very challenging to maintain as we are constantly subject to the interactions & influence of our environment through our work routine, food intake, habits, lifestyle choices etc. Our body will naturally try to maintain a dynamic equilibrium with the environment – whether our choices and actions are healthy or toxic.
Hence, your current Doshic constitution may differ from your birth constitution. Whilst any difference may reflect your ability to adjust to life’s influences, significant differences indicate imbalances which can lead to illness/disease.
Ayurveda seeks to bring back balance to your doshic constitution through personalised diet and lifestyle advice, herbal remedies, a range of tactile therapies, and Panchakarma (detox therapies) if necessary.
If you are new to Ayurvedic therapies and have any serious health issues it is recommended that you have a consultation first. QUALIFICATION DETAILS
