COUNSELLING and PSYCHOTHERAPY
Cheryl provides both counselling and psychotherapy. Counselling deals with the ‘here and now’, exploring our thinking processes, responses and actions and developing strategies for improved coping and relating. Psychotherapy involves exploring why we do the things we do, raising our awareness of our automatic (often unconscious) patterns of behaviour. It’s about making the unconscious conscious, with the intention of gaining mastery over old patterns of thinking and behaviour that are impacting adversely on our present. Psychotherapy results in self-awareness and insight that, in turn, result in positive change.
Techniques used include:
Psychotherapy
Sandplay therapy and symbol work
Be Set Free Fast (Thought Field Therapy)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Solution Focused Therapy
Emotional release
Relaxation, meditation and guided imagery
SUPERVISION
Cheryl provides a supervision service to counsellors, including trainee and intern counsellors. Cheryl is offering both individual and group supervision, in Melbourne CBD and in Caroline Springs. This supervision is recognized by Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and contributes to the supervision hours required for re-registration.
COUNSELLING FOR CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
Cheryl has worked with children and adolescents over a number of years in a range of settings. Her work with children has also involved autism support and she has a special interest in this area.
Techniques that have proved most effective with younger clients are sandplay and creative therapies and symbol work. Cheryl has undertaken extended training in the use of these techniques and has used this approach to facilitate positive change and resolve emotional issues for many younger clients.
SANDPLAY THERAPY
Sandplay therapy is a gentle and soothing approach to emotional release, problem solving and finding direction. The tactile and creative nature of sandplay therapy facilitates the expression of the sub-conscious mind, resulting in a sense of freedom, release and clarity of mind and purpose. Clients of all ages have experienced a clearing of emotions and shift in energy and attitude as a result of sandplay therapy.
