SERVICES
Remedial Massage provides a systematic and holistic treatment for the body. The consultation will be used to identify biomechanical dysfunction, target the cause of the dysfunction as well as provide symptomatic relief. Along with a targeted treatment, a consultation can be ideal for general maintenance and well-being.

Massage uses several specialised techniques to locate, ease and repair damage to muscles, tendons and joints. Remedial massage therapy supports and accelerates the body's own repair mechanisms.

The Consultation:

Assessment (confidential)
This includes taking a personal and medical history, postural analysis and relevant orthopaedic tests.

Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is the collective term for the full range of soft tissue techniques listed below.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep-Tissue Massage concentrates on post acute or chronic soft tissue problems. Techniques may include longitudinal gliding/stripping, DIP and frictions to name a few.

Myofascial Release (MFR)
Myofascial Release focusses on the fascia of the muscle. Fascia is the dense, shiny muscle casing which can often inhibit mobility. The MFR treatment utilises a slow, deep pressure. MFR aims to restore optimum elasticity to the fascia with guided motion and targeted pressure.

Myofascial Cupping
Cupping mobilises fascial tissue through the static or dynamic application of vacuum sealed cups to appropriate locations on the body. Myofascial cupping is utilised from a western musculoskeletal perspective to effectively mobilise dysfunctional components of the myofascial tissue to restore mobility and function. Myofascial cupping is affective through cellular and neuromuscular stimulation and disruption of fascial cross-linkages.

Trigger-Point Therapy
Trigger-point therapy targets painful or hyper-irritable points in muscular tissue by using press-release methods. Trigger points develop in muscles as a result of postural, exersional, psychological, emotional, metabolic, biomechanical, vascular, disc and/or joint stresses.

Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN)
TDN uses fine filament, acupuncture needles inserted into myofascial trigger points. TDN aims to elicit a local twitch response (LTR) in active trigger points and associated muscle fibers to decrease or completely eliminate dysfunctional neuromuscular activity. Just to be clear TDN is not acupuncture. TDN addresses dysfunction in the neuromuscular system affecting muscle tightness, joint mobility, and symptoms of pain and irritation. Read more

Sports Massage
Ideal for pre and post event and training. Sports massage will combine many of the techniques listed here into an appropriate, targeted treatment.

Thermal Therapies (Heat/Cold)
The effects of heat therapy include; increasing the extensibility of collagen tissues; decreasing joint stiffness; reducing pain; relieving muscle spasm; reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow. Increased blood flow to the affected area provides nutrients for better healing.
Cryotherapy is the application of either ice packs, cold gel packs or ice massage which results in the lowering tissue temperature. Cryotherapy restricts blood flow; decreases local metabolic rate; decreases pain (analgesic effect); decreases tissue extensibility and decreases spasticity.

Assisted Stretching (PNF/CRAC)
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation and CRAC stretching are a type of stretching therapy. PNF and CRAC utilise a series of stretches, against static resistance. PNF and CRAC increase flexibility; strength and range of movement in damaged or inflexible muscles.

Relaxation Massage
Regular relaxation massage can encourage better quality sleep; increased energy levels; increased immune function and benefits cellular, vascular and lymph function, thereby supporting and promoting the natural healing process.

QUALIFICATION DETAILS
I advocate an integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of somatic dysfunction and injury. I have a keen interest in an individual’s capacity to shift detrimental postural and movement patterns, as well as injury rehabilitation and pain managment.

I'm a member of AAMT and a graduate of the Diploma of Remedial Therapy from the Southern School of Natural Therapies. Consultations can include classical, sports and deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, trigger point dry needling, myofascial cupping, assisted stretching (PNF/CRAC) and pre and post event massage.

With over a decade of teaching and performing with contemporary dance companies Lucy Guerin Inc and Phillip Adams' Balletlab I have a broad knowledge base relating to the efficient use of the body in dance teaching, training, performance and injury rehabilitation. This training has also encompassed a familiarity with Yoga and Pilates. The knowledge gained from this experience enables an empathic and embodied approach to remedial massage practice.

Your comfort and confidence is a priority.
