I am very passionate about massage and how it can change a person’s wellbeing when applied correctly. I am also interested in making people aware of ways to enhance their wellbeing through correct posture and life style.
Treatment Types of Massage:
Swedish massage
This is the scientific and systematic manipulation of body tissue using long sweeping strokes as a therapeutic measure. The movements are used in a definite sequence using light and firm pressure with a specific objective in view.
- To sooth the nervous system and relax the patient
- Ease muscular and nervous tension
- Stimulate the flow of blood and lymph
- Aids digestion and assimilation
- Tone up the muscular system
- Ease pain
- Remove acids and other deposits
- Assist in healing of diseased parts
- Relieve pressure around joints and bones
Remedial Massage
This is a deep massage done by skilled hands to create the conditions for the body’s return to optimal health after injury. The techniques used are designed to increase the flow of blood and lymph around the body, particularly in the injured areas. This enables the body to heal. It is an unusual form of massage in that it does not set out to relax the patient, the intention is more to fix a mechanical problem. However all-round health improvement is seen: better sleep, increase in vitality and performance levels, as well as increased mobility. It can also be used to treat general muscle soreness from over exertion.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is the application of Massage and Stretch techniques to the muscle and connective tissues of the body to enhance athletic performance and maximize the performance of the athlete.
It increases range of movement, flexibility and relieves muscle soreness. It assists in injury prevention and promotes faster recovery from both training and injury. Sports Massage is applied to advantage Pre-Event, Inter Event, Post Event and during Rehabilitation. Many top competitors use sports massage as part of their training regime.
Myofascial Release
Is where the Fascia or Connective Tissue within your body structures get tight or restricted through poor posture, injuries or emotional stresses. By applying stretching and massage techniques, I can release disruptions within the Fascial network that links every Organ, Tissue, Bone, Joint, Muscle and Nerve of the body, which in turn can restore the body back to balance.
Trigger Point Therapy
Is a technique where the therapist finds a localised point within the the body of a muscle and applies pressure to that point to relieve pain and dysfunction. It can be added to a massage to enhance the effects of the treatment. There are 2 types of Trigger Points.
Active: cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to other areas of the body.
Latent: Only exhibit pain when compressd to that localised area. They do not refer pain anywhere else in the body. They are said to be one of the causes of stiff joints and restricted range of motion in the elderly. They may also be associated with Fibromyalgia.
Lymphatic Drainage
The Dr Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage is a manual, therapeutic method of stimulating the movement of fluids in the tissues. The gentle, rhythmic, pumping, massage movement’s follow the direction of lymph flow and produce rapid results, especially with lymphoedema patients.
This therapy can assist the body in recovery after trauma and can help with
- Reducing pain through the nervous system
- Help the immune system by eliminating toxins from lymph vessels to nodes to cary out immune responses
- Reducing fluid retention within the interstitial tissues
- By having a distinct relaxing and pain reducing effect on skeletal muscles
- And has a tonifying effect on smooth muscle eg: Large Intestine
Pregnancy Massage
There are many physical benefits of pregnancy massage. By using a combination of Swedish and remedial massage techniques, a therapist can assist with tensions and pains associated during pregnancy. Care must be taken during the first trimester but massage is beneficial through the entire pregnancy.
Pregnancy massage can
- Reduce peripheral swelling
- Sooth the nervous system
- Help prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain
