Lee Purkiss
I have been working as a Massage Therapist for 5 years and Exercise Physiologist for 3 years.
Fully qualified to perform remedial, relaxation, sports, pregnancy and lymphatic drainage massage. Exercise prescription is a major part of my treatments to give you the tools needed to manage any condition.
I am a recognised provider of remedial massage for most private health funds.
SERVICES Remedial Massage:
Commonly referred to as deep tissue massage. Does not need to be but firm pressure is a common trait of this technique. As the name suggests, to provide a remedy for a condition. The benefits that can be attained from remedial massage are improved movement, nutrition to muscles and joints (by increased blood flow) and decreased pain levels. Remedial massage can treat both the physical (sore muscles) and mental (reduced stress and anxiety) and is the most common form of massage that is seeked by my clients.
Relaxation Massage:
A real treat for unwinding the body. Find yourself melting into the table and reach a new level of inner peace. Relaxation massage is wonderful for treating people who are very stressed and wound up. Sometimes our nervous system is on overload and common methods of relaxation just don’t seem to work. Generally a lighter form of massage using rhythmical strokes but a firmer touch can be used if requested.
Sports Massage:
Traditionally used pre and post competition to prepare the body for sports stresses and to help recover after heavy exercise. Sports massage is a firmer style massage using specific techniques to mend the sporting body. I have been playing hockey for 15 years, competing in half marathons and a few triathlons so I am aware of the sensation of pain during and after exercise. I use specialised stretching techniques to assist in maintaining range of motion as well.
Pregnancy Massage:
One of my favourite massages to provide. The day to day stresses put through the human body is amazing. Extraordinary changes occur in the pregnant body leading to increases in pain, changed walking patterns, hips tilting and changing size, increases in hormones all leading to extra strain on the muscles and ligaments in the body trying to maintain structure and movement. Special kits are used on the tables so you can lay face down without discomfort to you or the baby and completely relax (and quite commonly fall asleep).
Lymphatic Drainage Massage:
Your lymphatic system is a major player when it comes to your immunity. External factors (pollutions, insecticides, alcohol, cigarettes) and internal (cancerous tissue) can congest your lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage will assist the body's ability to purge the external and internal stressors from the body. A wonderful treatment for conditions like lymphodaema, chronic fatigue syndrome and reoccurring illnesses like hay fever or influenza. Used to reduce the severity and consistency of these conditions and sometimes completely alleviate them.
Exercise Physiology:
I use this to assess movement, posture, balance and strength. Exercise prescription can be used to correct postural and muscular imbalances within the body. The exercises I can show you in the treatment can be taken away and used to maintain the work done on the table and also reduce the number of treatments needed to reach your goal of better health.
Prices for the hour are $80 and $50 for the half hour.
