About Breathexperience

What is Breathexperience?

I let the breath come, I let the breath go and wait for it to return on its own, naturally.

Breathexperience is a somatic form of breath and movement work that offers you the possibility to reconnect with your own inner resources. Working with the natural breath brings balance, healing and a sense of wellbeing into all aspects of your life.

Breathexperience, Middendorf Breathwork, is one of todays leading breath practices that develops the theme of allowing the breath to come and go on its own. With your presence, you participate in exploring and discovering the principles of the natural breath by sensing the movement of breath within your body.

Living in this dynamic body of breath you participate in your own process of growth and development. You can live in the experience of the oneness of body, soul and spirit. Breathexperience can bring you into an immediate and direct experience of your true nature and the peace that comes with it.

What can Breathexperience offer you?

The experiences and benefits you receive from this work will be unique to you as we all have our own individual history through life. If you approach this work being open to receiving rather than wanting, this supports the healing benefits that your connection to your own natural breath rhythm offers you.

Since breathing effects your entire being the benefits received encompass the physical realm of posture, movement and overall health as well as the emotional, mental and spiritual.

Some benefits received from Breathexperience:
- more support for one's posture
- more ease in one's movements
- decrease in restrictive holding patterns
- improvement in circulation
- less stress and anxiety
- more clarity in everyday life
- increased sense of oneness, physically, emotionally and spiritually
- brings a more balanced relationship with the inner and the outer
- a sense of peace.

Who can benefit from Breathexperience?

Breathexperience can benefit someone in their teenage years through to those entering the later years of their life. Throughout life we are always being introduced to new physical, emotional and spiritual challenges and with the support of the breath, that comes and goes on its own, we can meet them with an acceptance and trust in ourselves, that we will be able to cope.

In Breathexperience you are working with your own natural breath rhythm which comes out of your essential Self. The movements that come out of your allowed breath will stretch and support you in your own individual growth and development, no matter what your age.

Performing artists also find this work very supportive for their craft as singers, musicans, dancers and actors.

How can you experience this breath work?

There are two ways you can receive the benefits of Breathexperience.

1. Breath and Movement: Group Classes and Workshops

In the Breath and Movement classes you will be introduced to easy movement forms that are designed to support the breath that comes and goes on its own. The forms support and challenge you as you move from old restrictive patterns towards eventual freedom of expression which comes from the allowed breath movement.

Weekly classes and occassional workshops are offered. Loose comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement is recommended.

2. Breath Dialogue: Individual Session

You, the client lie on a low padded table so loose comfortable clothing is recommended. The session last for one hour. Using their hands, the practitioner makes offers to your allowed breath. This work is called Breath Dialogue, as both you and the practitoner are involved through your own presence while still remaining in your own natural breath rhythm.

The practitioner offers stretches, compression and presence to your breath movement. Through the sensing of your own breath movement and participation/presence in the experience you are responsible for becoming aware how the allowed breath is developing through unconscious areas bring balance, healing and finally integration.

Breath Dialogue and Breath and Movement have the same principles and are a wonderful complement to each other. Through sensing and participating, with presence in the movement of the allowed breath, you can recognize, within yourself the power and potential your own breath movement holds for healing and self expression.

Who is your Breathexperience practitioner?

My name is Fiona Wiseman and I am an accredited Middendorf Breathexperience practitioner. My four years of professional training were undertaken first at the Middendorf Institute for the Experience of Breath in Berlin, Germany, with the final two and a half years being completed at the Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience in Berkeley, California U.S.A. The Berlin and the Berkeley Institutes use the same curriculum for their professional training courses.

I have a Diploma in Voice from the Melba Memorial Conservatorium of Music and have worked in various area of theatre over the last 25 years.

I was fortunate to work with Ilse Middendorf, who is the creator of this breath work, several times during my training in Berlin even though Professor Middendorf was well into her nineties. She died in 2009 at the age of 99.
