Lyndal Thomas is a Brisbane Yoga Teacher with over 10 years experience. She teaches general yoga classes on the northside and north-west side and private classes for one or more people. She can also attend your own venue for group classes at work or in a club.
SERVICES LYNDAL THOMAS is a YOGA TEACHER who teaches general classes and one on one yoga. Lyndal and her husband Brett both have a passion for natural therapies. They share their lives with their beloved Scottish Terriers MacDougall and HoneyBea.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Lyndal became qualified as a Yoga Teacher in 1999 and has been teaching on the northside of Brisbane since 2000. She has her own classes in the northwest suburbs and has taught in several gyms over the years. Each of her classes are 75 minutes long, including warm-ups and meditation. The meditation assists in teaching you to become more present and to be aware of when you are holding on to tension and to allow it to be released. Yoga and meditation complement each other to enable you to learn to tune into your body, gradually enabling a lessening of tension and the huge benefits associated with less tension - a calmer mind, additional energy and less aches and pains.
When you come to her classes you are encouraged to ask questions as she checks people and to advise her of any problems you are having with postures. This results in your developing more body awareness and a healthier body which is less likely to be plagued with back and neck problems or the various conditions of today's society like anxiety, stress or depression. You will develop a greater self-knowledge which is a huge step toward peace and joy in your life.
Lyndal continues to be a student of yoga and attends regular yoga weekends and seminars, continually adding to her knowledge base. She has also studied ayurveda, the ancient form of Indian healing to acquire further knowledge about healing the body holistically and has also studied Bowen Therapy. She has a Second Level Remedial Yoga Certificate with Yoga for Health Australia which has given her further knowledge on working one-on-one with people with any level of pain or dis-ease, from back or neck pain, anxiety and high stress levels, through to all types of serious physical/emotional illnesses.
During her classes she regularly checks student postures and makes suggestions for improvements. You are encouraged to always work within your body's capacity and discouraged from any straining or painful movements.
The classes are general classes, appropriate for beginners and the majority of people (but not suitable for pregnant women) but allowing for those who may have been doing yoga for longer to choose to hold postures for a longer period, make appropriate adaptations or go deeper into postures.
VENUES AND COST
Lyndal runs courses in 8-10 week blocks throughout the year, costing $96-$120 (8 weeks = $96/10 weeks = $120 etc), totalling $12 per class x number of weeks ($88-$110 if paid in full at least 5 days prior to the first night of the course totalling $11 per class x number of weeks). The classes are:
Mid-Morning
- Keperra on Tuesday from 9.30-10.45am (women only/7 people only);
- Mitchelton on Thursday from 9.15-10.30am (casual places sometimes available); and
- Keperra on Friday from 9.00-10.15am (women over 40 only/7 people only).
Evenings
- Mitchelton on Monday from 6.30-7.45pm (casual places available);
- Mitchelton on Tuesday from 6.30-7.45pm;
- Keperra on Wednesday from 8.00-9.15pm (7 people only); and
- Ferny Hills on Thursday from 7.00-8.15pm (casual places available).
It is fine to start later in the term if that suits you better (and people often do) as long as there is a vacancy in the class. The cost would then be $12 x the number of weeks remaining.
CASUAL CLASSES
These are the classes that take casual students ($15 per class):
- Monday evening;
- Thursday evening; and
- Thursday mid-morning if there is space.
In the classes where casual students can attend there is also an option to buy a minimum of 4 classes x $13 ($52) which must be used within that particular course period in which it is purchased.
UPGRADE
At the time of enrolment in a course you may upgrade your course fee to add 1 - 3 private one-on-one one hour classes at an additional cost of only $50 per class (over 25% off the standard cost). This is a great opportunity for new students to start your yoga practice with extra confidence and for long-term students to fine-tune various postures and focus on particular areas with greater awareness.
STARTING DATES FOR YOGA TERMS
At this stage the terms for 2012 will be:
- Term 2 Monday 19 March - 10 weeks;
- Term 3 Monday 28 May - 9 weeks;
- Term 4 Monday 30 July - 9 weeks; and
- Term 5 Monday 8 October - 9 weeks.
Should you miss a class in the course it is usually possible to do a make-up class on another evening. Make up classes must be done before the end of the course. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings are always available to do a make-up but Thursday mornings have a limit for additional students because it is in a smaller venue and needs to be organised beforehand. If you know in advance you will miss a class you can even do your catch-up beforehand rather than trying to squeeze it in before the end of the course. This gives you the great advantage of being able to keep your yoga practice regular even when other events crop up in your life. Maintaining a regular yoga practice helps you to achieve the benefit of a calm mind and a happy body.
If you wish to try out the style of yoga before booking in to a course you may come along as a casual student ($15) to the Thursday morning or Thursday evening classes or any other class which has vacancies in the last 3 weeks of any course to see whether or not you wish to enrol in the next course.
If the classes are currently fully booked vacancies for the next courses become available to new students in the last 2 weeks of the current course.
CORPORATE SESSIONS/SPORTING CLUB SESSIONS/SOCIAL OR HOBBY GROUP SESSIONS
Lyndal can also come to your workplace or any kind of meeting place to teach a one-off or regular class or to give a talk on various ways to relax, stretch and meditate. These can be very beneficial for the workplace as a whole. Providing your own venue allows the per person rate to be reduced. Lyndal is available for lunchtime sessions or after-school sessions for school teachers or employees. Please contact her for further details.
PRIVATE CLASSES
Lyndal teaches private yoga classes for people who desire a specific style of class directed at a certain area or areas of the body, who wish to explore various postures in further depth or students who already attend class who would like some help in devising their own yoga routine/s to use at home when they choose to.
Private classes are also great for people who cannot regularly attend a class because of work schedules, etc. Lyndal can work with you and help you devise some routines to do in your own home. If you come along for a few sessions initially then every few months when you feel you are ready to explore further this is a fantastic and cost effective way to keep your personal yoga practice going. This can also be done at the same cost with two people if you have a friend in the same situation as yourself or you wish to come to yoga with your partner, parent or child and learn and explore together. You will receive a typewritten version of the postures worked on within 7 days of your private class which you can refer to.
BREATHING YOGA
Breathing Yoga is only taught in a one-on-one situation. It is suitable for people with any type of health condition, whether minor or more serious or considered to be physical or emotional. Working on the breath can help with everything in life.
This extremely gentle yoga focuses predominantly on the breath, very gentle postures, relaxation and meditation. Many of us develop incorrect breathing patterns during our lives and these long-term patterns can eventually lead to problems that manifest themselves in our minds and bodies. This work is based on Lyndal's training in remedial yoga and will help you to develop a greater breath awareness and slowly and gently begin to return the body to a more natural, calmer state of being. All sessions are personalised to suit your mind and body.
A commitment to a minimum of 5 weekly or fortnightly Breathing Yoga sessions is suggested to begin with, but of course it will depend upon your own personal circumstances. The initial session runs for 90 minutes and will predominantly go into your history and current state. Sessions after that are 60 minutes long.
