What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a scientific system of healing, which uses natural substances in micro doses to stimulate the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It was developed in the late 1700’s by a German physician and chemist, Dr Samuel Hahnemann and is based on the principle of ‘like cures like.’ Another way to describe this is to say that any substance which is capable of producing symptoms in a healthy person, will cure those same symptoms when they present in a sick person.

Allopathic medicine traditionally treats the disease which the patient is presenting with whereas homeopathy treats the person and their individual presentations of that disease.

The selection of a homeopathic medicine is based on noting the main symptoms of the patient and finding a medicine which has a similar symptom picture. Minute doses of that medicine are then administered to initiate a healing reaction. The body has amazing healing knowledge and these medicines stimulate our ability to respond.

A single dose of medicine may be given or repeated doses depending on the nature of the complaint. These small amounts of medicine are sufficient to stimulate the body’s healing process. Where illness has developed over a long time, several successive medicines may be needed.

Who can use Homeopathy?

Homeopathic medicines are highly diluted, do not interact with other medications and are non-toxic. This makes them an excellent choice for the entire family and especially for children, the elderly and for use during pregnancy. It is suitable for all ages and is an appealing alternative for health minded families.
