Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage focuses on relieving pain from chronic muscle tension. This is done by using deep, often direct pressure on the affected muscles. Many clients seldom realize that the area in which they feel pain is only the symptom of a deeper problem. Deep tissue massage is designed to get to the root of the issue so the problem can be alleviated and fixed. It may take several sessions to address chronic conditions.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is a holistic treatment and involves the use of massage and a wide range of diagnostic techniques to treat a condition.
Remedial massage can be helpful in treating specific areas of muscle tension caused by stress or injury. The therapy also helps to get the blood flowing to injured tissues to speed up the repair process. Remedial massage can also be used for relaxation and general wellbeing.
Reflexology
Reflexology focuses solely on the hands and feet. The therapist uses finger pressure on known pressure points on the hands and feet. The application of pressure on this reflex areas correspond to specific organs of the body. It is the premise of this modality that by stimulating the corresponding pressure points in the hands and feet one can influence that part of the body.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle relaxing manual massage that improves the activity of the lymph vessels by mild mechanical stretches on the wall of the lymph collectors. The pressure is superficial, contact is with the skin not the muscle. With an increase of lymph flow immune function is increased. Harmful substances are removed from the tissues and neutralized in the nodes.
Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massage is designed to maximise the benefits of essential oils by using a combination of different movements and techniques such as lymphatic drainage which facilitates and assists in the elimination of toxins, and Swedish massage techniques that improve circulation, increase mobility and reduces pain.
Trigger Point Massage
Trigger Points are located within bands of tight & tense muscle and become activated after injury, overuse or even lack of exercise. By adding pressure to these points, your therapist can deactivate these points, reduce pain and improve your range of movement.
Sometimes you may feel a pain that extends up the back of your neck which may actually be caused by a trigger point in your upper back or you may have pain that shoots down the back of your leg stemming from an active trigger point in your buttock. Your therapist is trained to recognise these pain referral patterns and deactivate the trigger points involved. Often clients are thrilled with the results after receiving trigger point therapy.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu, also known as acupressure, is a finger pressure massage technique that is sometimes confused with acupuncture. Shiatsu massage therapy and acupuncture are founded on the Chinese meridian system. The therapist applies pressure with her thumbs, finger, and palms to specific areas of the client's body that have been determined during an assessment period prior to the massage session.
There are no needle pokes involved with Shiatsu. Massage techniques like tapping, squeezing, rubbing, and applied pressure are applied along the meridians to unblock energy blockages and reintroduce the optimal flow of ki.
Swedish Massage
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.
The use of hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times. Therapy.
The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. River rocks are normally used because they are so smooth - they have been smoothed over time by the river's current.
The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.
