Natural Medicine Descriptions and How They Can Assist You
Chiropractic
A system of therapy which aims to restore balance to the spine, muscles and nervous systems with a purpose of maintaining good health. This may include manipulative techniques of the spine, soft tissues & other joints.
Naturopathy
The Naturopath deals with internal health problems, metabolic disorders/imbalances and treats the “whole person”. In general, a range of diagnostic techniques which may include Iriodology are used to assess causative factors and treatment may involve Dietary Guidance, Herbal Medicine, Bodywork or Nutritional Supplementation.
Herbal Medicine
Classical Herbal Medicine utilises the Hippocratic Principles of treating the person not the disease, evaluating the whole lifestyle as well as the emotional/circumstantial environment of each client not just the physical symptoms. Individual herbal extracts and tinctures are prescribed.
Nutrition
Treatment of disorders/diseases with specific substances to correct/prevent an imbalance and to correct daily nutrition to achieve biochemical balance through supplementation.
Natural Fertility Management
Uses a various holistic methods for achieving or avoiding conception. Infertility problems are also examined/evaluated through a variety of diagnostic/treatment programmes.
Psychology
Psychology is an intensive process of working through the issues that you want to address. These issues might include things like: dealing with depression, stress or anxiety, addressing relationship difficulties and working through trauma. Attending psychology will probably mean
that you come to a regular appointment, maybe once a week or fortnight, for a period of time. Psychology generally requires one-hour face to-face appointments, however, in some cases, shorter appointments and phone consultations will be possible. This service can be accessed with or without a GP referral. If you would like to receive psychology without a GP referral arrange an appointment. These services will qualify for private health insurance rebates where applicable. If you would like to receive psychology with a GP referral, you will need to attend your GP and discuss your requirements with them. The GP will complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral and either fax them through to 4393 3333 or bring it with you to the first session.
Counselling
For treating crisis situations, for management of stress and/or emotional difficulties ie. grief, trauma, conflict. Is also used for mediation purposes. In our fast and often isolated society we have lost our place to be “heard”. A valuable modality to allow people access to their own solutions creating a more peaceful and focused life. With safety and support you can explore areas such as relationship difficulties, personal crisis, transitional changes, addictive patterns and stress related disorders.
Acupuncture / Cupping Therapy
Acupuncture takes a wholistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes. As a natural form of healing, acupuncture • provides drug-free pain relief • effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic ailments • treats the underlying cause of disease and illness as well as the symptoms • provides an wholistic approach to the treatment of disease and illness, linking body, mind and emotions • assists in the prevention against disease and illness as well as the maintenance of general well-being
Relaxation Massage (Therapeutic)
Is gentle and aims to relieve tension, Relax, Renew and Regenerate the whole body, promoting circulation and a sense of well-being.Remedial Massage
Is a blend of scientific massage techniques which aim to decrease painful conditions/injuries by treating the dysfunction causing the pain and improve range of movement and mobility, promoting efficiency in the body’s system, which in turn enhances the functioning and wellbeing of the entire person.
Sports Therapies
Specifically focuses on sports injury prevention and treatment. Your therapist will assess/treat sports injuries, provide rehabilitation advice and offer pre- and post-event massage.
Trigger Point Therapy
Treating hyper-irritable spots found within muscle/fascia and often the cause of pain, discomfort and immobility. Trigger Points are released through pressure which can restore mobility and reduce or relieve pain.
Myofascial Release Therapy
Frees the body from the constriction of tight fascia (connective tissue) restoring normal alignment and function. An effective treatment for disorders including chronic pain syndromes and can be used instead of massage for those looking for a more gentler approach to healing.
Hot Stone Therapy
This ancient treatment involves placing hot stones on pressure and chakra points and massaging with oiled hot stones. Aromatic oils are used to relax muscles and soft tissue relieving pain, increase cellular metabolism, and assist in detoxification.
Lymphatic Massage
Lymphatic massage works on the major drainage system of the body and plays a key role in the surveillance/defence of the body and functions in immune response. It also assists in the maintenance of fluid balance.
Ear Candling Treatment
The treatment provides a wonderful, relaxing experience for the client. It can assist such conditions as sinusitis, headaches, migraines, upper respiratory complaints, glue ear and breathing difficulties. To increase effectiveness ear candling treatments are combined with other techniques such as acupressure, reflexology and massage.
Pregnancy Massage
Assist with the tensions and pains experienced during pregnancy which are caused by extra weight and shift in the centre of gravity. Massage reduces peripheral swelling, soothes the nervous system, helps to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain along with providing emotional support and nurturing. Positioning is important and the therapist will ensure your and the babies optimal comfort. Massage is beneficial for pre- and post-natal.
Oncology Massage
Research has dispelled old beliefs and shows that comfort-oriented massage does not contribute to the spread of cancer rather that cancer is a result of changes to a cell's DNA and other processes in the body. Fortunately, that now allows for caring, comforting and support for cancer patients, people at the end of life and cancer survivors.
Detox Massage
Every day we ingest toxins from the food we eat and the air we breath. Our body also creates internal toxins, for instance bi-products of the stress response, inflammation, etc. Toxicity is of much greater concern in this century than at any other time. We are also affected by environmental contamination such as lead and heavy metals. A detox massage will assist in the elimination of toxins through gentle techniques that stimulate blood, lymphatic and energetic flow.
Cranio Sacral
Cranio Sacral therapy is an exceptionally gentle yet extremely powerful form of treatment, increasingly recognised for the depth of it’s influence, the comprehensive range of it’s therapeutic effects and the ability to resolve issues that are not helped by other means. It is a profound healing process that can release the deeply held patterns of disease both physically and psychologically. Cranio Sacral treats the whole person and can assist many conditions.
Integrative Bodywork
A specialised, advanced bodywork therapy introducing body-mind concepts combining breath therapy, somatics and the application of profound techniques working at the cellular memory level of the body.
