SERVICES
REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Used to treat a particular problem or areas. This type of massage uses techniques such as trigger point therapy, frictions and other deep strokes to release muscle tension, adhesions and scar tissue which results from injuries, repetitive type movements and even poor posture. Remedial Massage can also help break the chronic pain cycle which can develop over time, limiting movement and function.
Exercises and home care advice will also be given to aid your recovery.

SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports Massage is a useful addition to your active lifestyle. It can be used pre or post-event and also as part of your training routine. Many of my clients feel that their recovery rate is faster after massage. Working on problem areas can help prevent injuries from occurring in the first place. It can also help old injuries from recurring and makes scar tissue more pliable. Sports Massage helps you perform at your best and reach your goals sooner.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Is used to release trigger points that are ‘knots’ in muscle tissue and fascia , knots can cause active muscle spasm that refer pain to other areas of the muscle and surrounding areas. Eg. some trigger points in neck muscles can cause headaches. Trigger point therapy is compression of the ‘knots’ to relax the muscle, stimulate oxygen, nutrient and blood flow to the area causing reduction in pain and, increase in mobility.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Myofascial release targets the layers surrounding the muscle. Similar to a soft tissue release technique but with a more gentle pressure applied to the restricted fascia and tissues. The massage therapist will apply a gentle stretch using their hands with mild pressure. This will help the fascia 'unwind' itself. The gentle traction applied to the restricted fascia will result in an increased blood flow to the area thus eliminating pain and the body's ability for self correction to restoring the body's performance.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE
Is a safe natural way to help cope with the stressors of pregnancy and associated aches and pains. It’s a wonderful way to relax, increase your energy and relieve pain and discomfort. It’s great to prepare both physically and mentally for the labour and when the baby arrives. Massage helps with fluid retention, relaxation can help with constipation & heartburn, helps with flexibility as the baby grows and your posture changes , and can help varicose veins by slowing their progression.

ONCOLOGY MASSAGE
Is a safe natural way to help cope with the stressors of pregnancy and associated aches and pains. It’s a wonderful way to relax, increase your energy and relieve pain and discomfort. It’s great to prepare both physically and mentally for the labour and when the baby arrives. Massage helps with fluid retention, relaxation can help with constipation & heartburn, helps with flexibility as the baby grows and your posture changes , and can help varicose veins by slowing their progression.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Lymphatic drainage is very gentle and slow massage that is used to improve movement and flow of lymphatic fluid around the body. It is often used to relieve swelling and fluid retention and can be used after surgeries, injuries and accidents. The massage works to move fluid towards the nodes of the lymphatic system, where the excess fluid is then moved into the blood stream, where it is then excreted. A 1 hour - 1 1/2 hour treatment is recommended. Clients are advised to drink plenty of water before and after treatment and avoid alcohol after treatment.

CRAINO-SACRAL THERAPY
A Gentle touch therapy that helps balance and align the head, spine and pelvis. Once these areas are aligned it will then affect the rest of body, balancing other muscles and structures. Gentle touch is used to palpate the head, lower back or pelvis to feel for areas that are stuck or imbalanced. Where the therapist feels dysfunction, the hands are used to hold key bones and joints to encourage the area to align and move freely. It is used to support headaches, migraines, jaw pain, neck pain, sinus pain, lower back pain, pelvic pain.

RELAXATION / SWEDISH
Encourages a state of calm and wellbeing. Stress can cause muscle tension to occur which in turn creates pain and more stress. Massage works directly by relaxing the muscles and indirectly by calming the nervous system. Heart rate and blood pressure decreases, breathing slows and deepens and digestion returns to normal.

HOT STONE MASSAGE
The warmed stones are an extension of the therapist’s hands, and help to soothe away muscle tension, increasing local circulation to the muscles bringing in fresh blood and nutrients to help heal and nourish the tissues. Hot Stone Massage is recommended to all our clients; it can be the most relaxing and nurturing treatment you will experience, or the stones can be used for deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy. Applying the heat quickly warms the tissues helping to release muscles, knots and is recommended to clients that are experiencing severe muscle tension and pain. A 1 hour treatment or a 1 1/2 hour treatment is recommended for best results.

REFLEXOLOGY
A Specialised style of massage that works mainly on the feet, as they are the most receptive to treatment. Reflex points are located on both feet that corresponds to organs, glands and structures of the body. e.g. the big toe corresponds to the head and neck Reflexology is used to support conditions such as headaches, digestive issues, women's health issues such as menopause symptoms and painful periods. A reflexology session takes 1 hour to cover all parts of the body on the feet. The feet are treated to warm towel cocoon and a soothing cream is massaged into the feet.

IRIDOLOGY
Iridology is the study of the coloured part of the eyes called the iris.
Close examination of the iris reveals constitutional weakness and your pathway to disease, so what areas of your body/health are mostly likely to be effected either by your genes or the environment (diet & lifestyle).
The irises are examined with 10x magnification and torch, and a photo is taken to help explain to you what I see and compare before and after treatment if any is needed.
Iridology is a diagnostic tool not a treatment. I use iridology to get a picture of your overall health and will use massage, reflexology or the flower essences to help your condition. Iridology appointments are separate a consultation unless previously organised to allow adequate time for your appointment.

Some commonly asked questions about Massage Therapy

1. My training and Accreditation
I have extensive training in my field holding a full diploma of health science in massage therapy which took 2 years to complete from TAFE. I also have a diploma of Reflexology which also took 2 years to complete from ACNT, Post. Graduate course on Seated Corprate Massage, Advanced Certificate of Iridology, Certificate in Hot Stone Massage, Myofascial Release & CrainoSacral therapy, Oncology Massage, Bach Flower Remedies & Australian Bush Flower Essences. I am a member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society.
I currently the Training Manager for the Premier College and a lecturer

2. Can I claim Massage Therapy from my Health Fund?
Yes. As long as your health fund covers massage and/ or reflexology and you have the appropriate level of cover you will receive a benefit.

3. What does Massage Therapy do?
Massage is a highly scientific manual therapy that works on the muscles and soft tissues of the body; to help correct body alignment and posture, take away muscle tightness, tension, treat and/ or prevent muscle injuries, breaking away scar tissue and adhesions in the muscles.

4.How does Massage Therapy work?
By massaging an area of the body we are increasing circulation to the area which in turn will increase the blood flow. The increase in blood will be carrying oxygenated blood cells to help speed up the healing process. Also the increase in blood will increase ‘good inflammation’ to get the body to heal that area faster. Some techniques such as kneading will manually get the muscles to soften and relax.

5. Does having Massage Therapy hurt?
Depending on the severity of your condition some techniques can be uncomfortable but as the muscle releases the pain in the area will dissipate, this is part of the healing process. Though their may be some discomfort for certain areas of the body your Massage Therapist will keep their pressure on you to your level of comfort.

6. What happens during my Massage Therapy session?
For your first visit, a health history must be completed and signed, advising us of any health issues along with your current condition. An examination of your body may be carried out, looking at your posture also a range of muscle tests including strength and flexibility.
A treatment plan will be prescribed to suit your needs and the current condition. Oil will be used on the skin along with any specialised creams if needed. You will be required to undress to the underwear, or you can leave any parts of clothing on, on areas that don’t required treatment. Females can have a gown if required. Towels are then used to cover any areas of the body that don’t require work, and remain completely covered. Only the area being worked on at that time is left uncovered. Most Massage Therapy sessions are for an hour this includes consultation, time to prepare and treatment.

7. What are some of the benefits of having regular Massage Therapy?
Massage is great for helping with a lot of physical problems like tight muscles, improves their function and relieves pain. Massage induces a sense of well-being and relaxation through the release of endorphins and other natural body chemicals that make us feel good and reduce pain. Massage can also boost our immune function, improve our circulation that keep muscles oxygenated and healthy, and help to eliminate toxins from our bodies.

8. What are the affects of Massage Therapy after treatment?
Depending on your muscle condition there may be some tenderness 24-48 hrs after your massage. This is because lactic acid (a toxin) has been released from the muscles. This is the chemical that creates muscle soreness after exercise.
It is important to drink plenty of water after your Massage to reduce the effects of the toxins that have been released, this will help with side effects such as headaches and nausea these are both uncommon but can happen in those sensitive.
You may be given stretches to do at home or other exercises to aid in your rehabilitation.

9. How often should I have Massage Therapy?
Some conditions require a number of sessions close together to get the problem healing effectively. It is important to keep appointments as the effects of each treatment build on the last.
Once a condition has effectively been treated and is under control it is suggested that a maintenance schedule be followed to keep any problems at bay and have a muscle tune up!
