Osteopathy is an established recognised system of diagnosis and treatment, which lays its main emphasis on the structural and functional integrity of the body. It is distinctive by the fact that it recognises that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body structure as well as damage caused to it by disease.

Whilst back pain and neck pain are the most common problems seen, Osteopathy can help with a wide variety of problems including changes to posture in pregnancy, babies with colic or sleeplessness, repetitive strain injury, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, headaches and migraines, the pain of arthritis, soft tissue sprains and strains and sports injuries among many others. Leaflets explaining many of the common treatments used are available at the clinic.

When you visit an Osteopath for the first time a full case history will be taken and you will be given an examination. You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing and to perform a simple series of movements. The Osteopath will then use a highly developed sense of touch, called palpation, to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body. The Osteopath may need additional investigations such as x-ray, scans or blood tests. This will allow a full diagnosis and suitable treatment plan to be developed for you.

MOC offers a range and services which effectively complement the practice of Osteopathy and provide you with many treatment options. These include:

CLINICAL PILATES
Pilates is a system of exercise that anyone can do and benefit from, from elite athletes to pregnant women. Traditionally Pilates is taught in a studio setting, using various different props and pieces of equipment to strengthen and tone the body. Pilates is taught in many different ways including group classes (mat or reformer), studio Pilates and Clinical Pilates (by University trained musculoskeletal therapists e.g. Osteopaths).

Pilates can be used to;
· Rehabilitate from injury
· Maintain and promote strength and flexibility
· Tone and lengthen muscles
· Enhance postural awareness
· Enhance breathing
· Promote coordination and balance
· Promote general wellbeing

Pilates at MOC
Taught by qualified Osteopaths, in a fully equipped Pilates studio. Instructors at MOC have trained extensively in the Pilates method.
Pilates workouts at MOC are normally 90 minutes long however, those who are pregnant or injured may have shorter workout times.
All sessions are highly supervised with one instructor overseeing a maximum of 4 clients at any one time.
Each client, at MOC, is guided through his or her own tailored program, and exercises are added or modified according to changing needs and ability.
