College and took further study in China with an internship at the famous Wanjing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing.

Michelle has successfully treated many conditions including headaches and migraine, pain, anxiety and depression, insomnia, skin conditions and digestive complaints. She has a particular interest in Women’s Health and Natural Fertility and has helped many women achieve a healthy pregnancy. Michelle can also treat menstrual problems, and help to ease the unpleasant symptoms of menopause.

Whether you suffer from insomnia, anxiety, or just plain exhaustion, Michelle can help you to improve your energy to be able to cope with the juggling act. Michelle often treats the whole family, and finds that children respond very well to natural therapies, particularly for skin conditions like eczema, the common cold, chronic ear infections and tonsillitis.

NATUROPATHY & PREGNANCY

Pregnancy is a time when you want your body to be as healthy and as vital as it can be, not just for you, but also for the baby.
A Naturopath is trained to help in many ways during pregnancy. Whether it is to support the extra nutritional demands of pregnancy, reduce morning sickness, address undiagnosed allergies, reduce heartburn, constipation, stress or other pre-existing conditions – Naturopathy can offer safe and effective support.

While most people start trying to conceive as soon as they make the decision to become pregnant, it is important to prepare your body for a few months beforehand. A Naturopath can help you find out if you are deficient in any essential nutrients and what areas you may need to work on before conception. They achieve this using iridology and tongue diagnosis, analyzing your nutrient intake, improving digestion and absorption, and by working with other health professionals involved.

Once you have found out you are pregnant, a Naturopath can help guide you through your pregnancy. You have probably heard that what you eat, drink, and do during pregnancy can have an effect on your unborn child. New research shows that conditions like obesity, diabetes and allergies can all be programmed into your child’s DNA in utero. A mother’s diet, exposure to pollutants, stress and infections, can also have an effect on the expression of a babies DNA.

A Naturopath helps you achieve optimal health during pregnancy by taking a close look at your diet, advising you of vitamin and/or mineral supplements that may be needed, and by using herbal medicine and flower essences to reduce stress.

So if you want to find out how you can have a healthy pregnancy and give your baby the best possible start in life, make an appointment with Michelle Bryceland

ACUPUNCTURE AND PREGNANCY

For over 3000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine has promoted treatment for women in pregnancy and after the baby is born. Acupuncture has become an increasingly popular form of treatment for many conditions during pregnancy and to assist with a healthy pregnancy and baby.

During the first trimester of pregnancy, acupuncture may reduce morning sickness, fatigue, migraines and bleeding. During the second trimester, acupuncture can assist with heartburn, haemorrhoids and stress. And in the third trimester, acupuncture can provide relief from back pain, sciatica, and can help reduce hypertension, fluid retention and insomnia. Treatments may be needed weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on the severity of symptoms.

In the last four to six weeks, acupuncture treatment can help to prepare the pelvis and cervix for labour. Ideally treatment should be once a week until labour begins. Research shows that this course of treatment can assist in reducing the need for medical interventions such as medical induction or a caesarian during childbirth (Betts D, Lenox S, 2006, Acupuncture for Prebirth Treatment: An Observational Study of its use in Midwifery practice, Medical Acupuncture. Vol 17, No 3).

Acupuncture can be also beneficial in promoting recovery after the baby is born. Treatment can assist with insufficient breast milk, repair of scar tissue, post-natal depression, and general fatigue and low energy after childbirth. Acupuncture can build and strengthen Qi in the body which is often depleted after pregnancy. Dietary and lifestyle advice will also be offered to assist you with the healthiest pregnancy and birth

Naturopathy

Naturopathy is a form of treatment that incorporates the modalities of herbal medicine, nutrition, as well as mineral therapy, flower essences and massage. The aim of treatment is to look at the physical, mental/spiritual aspects of a person’s health in order to restore health and harmony.

One of the main modalities of treatment used by a Naturopath is herbal medicine, which dates back to the Greek and Roman empires, and is also found in healing traditions such as Ayurvedic medicine from India, Traditional Chinese Medicine and the North American Indians. Many herbs used by Naturopaths today originate from these countries, as well as herbs from Europe and England.

Nutrition, a more recent science, is also used by Naturopaths, both in the form of correcting nutritional imbalances a person may have, as well as forming a diet which best suits a person’s lifestyle and needs. Nutrition is more than just counting calories and looking at low-fat alternatives. It is also important to have a good balance of food types, to eat quality food, to eat according to the seasons, and to eat foods which are in harmony with a persons constitution or current health status. Food in it self can bring about healing.

Naturopaths also use flower remedies, created by Dr. Edward Bach in England in the 1930’s. Bach’s belief was that flower essences prepared in a certain way can assist with emotional imbalances that are affecting our general health and well-being. Mineral Therapy is another modality used by Naturopaths in treatment, as well as by some chiropractors. The use of these minerals is to correct biochemical imbalances in the body which cause ill-health

Acupuncture

The practice of acupuncture and moxibustion is based on the theory of meridians, which is around 3000 years old. According to this theory, qi (or energy) and blood circulate in the body through channels called meridians, connecting internal organs with external organs or tissues. By stimulating certain points of the body through needling or moxibustion, the flow of qi and blood can be regulated and diseases can be treated.

Acupoints reside along more than a dozen of major meridians. There are 12 pairs of regular meridians along both sides of the body. Along these meridians more than three hundred acupoints are identified, each having its own therapeutic action.

The practitioner chooses the acupoints based on the patients diagnosis, through looking at a persons case history, tongue and pulse. Points may be on the arms/hands, legs/feet, abdomen, back or face and scalp. The needles are usually left in for about 20 minutes. Sometimes a sensation can be felt on the needle such as a dull sensation, or a pulsating sensation.

Often people feel a sense of deep relaxation or feel energised after an acupuncture treatment
