How can Acupuncture help you?
Acupuncture has become more and more popular over the years as it emphasizes the mind-body connection, encompassing the effects of our psychological and emotional wellbeing on our levels of physical health. Nearly all of us experience stress to some degree, and for many this becomes their "normal" state of existence. Stress endured over a significant period of time is detrimental to your health on many levels and is quite insidious. Symptoms might seem trivial, like sleep disturbances, reflux, or occasional constipation or diarrhea, but they keep eating away at you until you can't ignore them anymore. There are many clients who come to natural therapists who have "no medical explanation" for their symptoms, like not being able to get pregnant, or having irritable bowel syndrome.
The primary focus of acupuncture is to balance the body's qi (energy) and the
flow of qi within the various body systems. If you consider yourself to be healthy, happy and vital, your qi flow is probably quite harmonious and your immune system will be strong. On the other hand, if you suffer pain or discomfort, your qi flow is obstructed and this will ultimately affect your quality of life.
Listed below are some conditions effectively treated by acupuncture:
Gynaecological and obstetric disorders - fertility, menstrual and menopausal problems
Musculoskeletal disorders - 'frozen shoulder', tendinitis, back pain etc
Neurological conditions - includes headaches and migraines, numbness and tingling
Cardiovascular disorders-palpitations
Respiratory conditions-asthma, sinusitis, hayfever
Digestive system disorders-irritable bowel, reflux
Urogenital disorders- frequent urination, bedwetting
Skin conditions-rashes, hives, eczema
Eye conditions-blurred vision
Sporting injuries-speeds recovery for strains and sprains
Psychological conditions -addictions, anxiety, depression
Clinically, Acupuncture is used for a much wider range of conditions and can often provide relief when Western medicine cannot. (eg. premenstrual pain, irritable bowel syndrome, menopausal symptoms, depression, drug -addiction, post-surgery). Cupping and/or moxa may be used as part of your treatment.
Ready to quit smoking?
Studies have shown that acupuncture has helped some people quit long term but it seems that we all know of some one who tried acupuncture but it didn't work for them.
I have put together a program that encompasses the traditionally used protocol plus protocols from Esoteric Acupuncture and Five Element Acupuncture. A combination of these treatments allows you to 'drop' into a state of deep relaxation and allows you to approach your connection to smoking from a different perspective. It has the ability to eliminate the negative thought-forms you have with not only your health, but other aspects of your life that no longer serve any purpose. Get ready to move forward! Feel free to contact me for more information.
Who is qualified to perform Acupuncture?
In Victoria, all Acupuncturists (non-medical) must be registered with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board. This ensures that your treatment is performed with expertise and safety. Registered Acupuncturists have a sound knowledge of Western medical conditions and will refer to a GP when necessary. Registration also ensures health fund rebates. It is a requirement that sterile, single use needles are used.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Most people experience Acupuncture differently. Some may feel minimal pain as the needles are inserted, others will feel nothing. When the needles are positioned correctly, there should be no pain but there maybe feelings of warmth, tingling, dull aching, heaviness, or numbness. Most people find it easy to relax during treatment, and may even fall asleep.
About your therapist
Michelle has had extensive experience with body work and musculoskeletal conditions over the last 12 years as a remedial therapist and has been combining this skill with acupuncture for the last 8 years, treating a huge variety of conditions, from tendinitis and back problems, to anxiety and addictions.
Michelle does weekly acupuncture sessions at a local community centre, supporting those with drug and alcohol issues.
Michelle's main focus now is to use acupuncture to help clients establish a strong and harmonious connection within so they are able to view their disharmonies in a different light. She believes that awakening a conscious understanding of illness assists with the healing process on all levels. Five Element acupuncture or Esoteric acupuncture techniques, which incorporate the hindu chakra system and sacred geometry, are often applied for this purpose and can literally be life changing.
Michelle has completed a Degree in Health Science (Acupuncture) with an internship at Zhejiang Hospital of TCM in Hangzhou, China, and has a Diploma of Applied Science (Remedial Therapies). She has undertaken post graduate courses in fertility and gynaecology, Five Element acupuncture and Esoteric Acupuncture. She is registered with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board, is a member of ATMS and is registered with most health funds and workcover.
