HOLISTIC DOCTORS/ INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
/ Dr Anne Small
Our doctors are trained in conventional medicine practices and are further experienced in Integrative Medicine, which explores the physical, emotional, energetic, nutritional and environmental causes of ill health. They use functional pathology tests which show how the various systems and organs in our body are functioning. They understand the benefits of other complementary practices and may refer clients to these practitioners where appropriate.
Our doctors are experienced in prescribing bio-identical hormones, including oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA and thyroid hormone that are physiologically identical to those produced in the human body.
HOLISTIC KINESIOLOGY / Jane Lee-Stewart
BA Diploma Health Science (Hol Kinesiology)
Member ATMS
Kinesiology uses muscle monitoring to obtain biofeedback identifying energetic imbalances that block the body's natural healing processes. These imbalances and stresses may be physical, emotional, mental or environmental in nature and stored in the body from early life.
Jane has an interest in stress management and healing at all levels of the human energy field. She incorporates approaches from the major streams of kinesiology in her work including Applied Physiology, Touch for Health, Counselling Kinesiology, 3in1, PKP and LEAP (Learning Enhancement Acupressure Program for assessing and correcting learning difficulties). She also employs Emotional Freedom Technique, Psychosomatic models which identify emotional triggers for disease and is a facilitator of the Serenity system of Neurofeedback, a software system for brainwave entrainment which teaches the brain to self regulate through sound.
Kinesiology sessions are nurturing and relaxing and take place fully clothed. Clients generally experience a feeling of relaxation and well being immediately.
ACUPUNCTURE / Wei Wei Qian
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing, with a history of continuous use stretching back over 3000 years.
Today it is practised extensively throughout the Orient and increasingly in the West, and is the second most practised medical system in the world.
It began with the discovery that the stimulation of specific areas of the skin affected the functioning of certian organs of the body. It evolved into a healing system as the connection between the skin and the organs were better understood and more sensitive ways of stimulation were devised. Extensive research in China, US and Janpa has show that Acupuncture directly influences the hormonal, nervous and immune systems.
It is effective in a wide variety of conditions through its power to stimulate the body's own innate healing responses.
WEI WEI QIAN trained in Hang Zhou, China, as a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and worked for 7 years in the Red Cross Hospital. She practised acupuncture and herbal medicine in the departments of gynaecology, internal medicine, and orthopaedics and has also trained Western acupuncture students. Wei Wei speaks fluent English.

MASSAGE / Allison Pasznyk and Laurie Hilder
Our massage therapists are experienced in various styles of massage including relaxation, deep tissue, sport, lymphatic and trigger point.
Relaxation Massage - Laurie Hilder-Quach & Allison Pasznyk
Relaxation massage can be part of a healthy life plan by balancing the body and mind, by enhancing wellbeing and quality of life. Massage increases the body’s circulation, eliminates toxins, improves body movement and relieves aches and pains. Clients do not have to be in pain to benefit from a relaxation massage, which is suitable for the very young to the elderly.
As well as improving general health, massage can have a profound effect on our emotional and mental wellbeing. It allows the body and the mind to reach a deep sense of relaxation, restoring the body to homeostasis, physical balance and equilibrium.
Remedial Massage - Laurie Hilder-Quach
With busy lifestyles and hectic careers, many of us hold stress and tension within our body. This can escalate to acute or chronic conditions if not treated and can become very painful, impacting on the client’s quality of life.
Whether it is a build up of tension, aches and pains or a soft tissue injury, massage can assist the body to heal. The use of one or more techniques may be used such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, glass or vacuum cupping, myofascial release or stretching.
Myofascial Release - Laurie Hilder-Quach
This is a deep tissue technique that works on the myofascia, which is the flexible network of tissue that surrounds, cushions and supports the muscles. The particular tissue is an underlying determinant of movement and quality of mood, alertness and general wellbeing.
The technique releases blockages, scarring or adhesions in the myofascia and has much to offer those with chronic problems or who have not responded to other interventions. When combined with other therapies, this manipulation of the myofascia is central to lasting therapeutic interventions.
During this special period, many women suffer from aches, pains, and discomfort. The change in posture and the weight from the growing baby can place a lot of pressure on the woman’s body. Other women may feel tired, stressed or anxious with the arrival of their new baby. Massage can assist with the discomfort, sooth tight and tense muscles, and help relax and prepare the expected mother for her new arrival.
Pregnancy Massage- Laurie Hilder-Quach
Pregnancy massage is a safe treatment when performed by a qualified therapist. Massage can be performed throughout the entire pregnancy. During the first trimester, Laurie does require a letter from the client’s doctor approving the massage before commencing any treatment. Every client is individually evaluated, in consultation with her doctor, wherever appropriate, to ensure the client receives the safest and appropriate treatment to suit her specific needs.
Some women suffer from fluid retention during and after their pregnancy, this may be caused by the baby placing pressure on the lymph system, restricting circulation. Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage that can assist in reducing the fluid build-up.
Infant Massage - Laurie Hilder-Quach
Laurie is both a qualified massage therapist and qualified Infant Massage Instructor. Infant massage courses are run by demand, or on a one on one basis, teaching and giving parents or carers confidence to massage their child. During the course, some of the topics covered are massage strokes, appropriate oils to use, the best time to massage, and adopting massage strokes to suit the growing child. If a child is in need of a professional massage treatment, Laurie is able to assess and treat the child.
Massage is best applied by a parent or carer as the child will feel most relaxed and comfortable with them. This can be a wonderful opportunity for both parents to bond with their child. Whether it be a father who might feel left out, or a working mother, massage can be a special and intimate time shared with their child.
Benefits of Infant Massage:
relief of sinus and chest congestion
improve quality of sleep
strengthens the immune system
increases circulation
increases body awareness
assist with reflux and colic
aids and stimulates digestion
assists with constipation and painful gas
can help mothers experiencing mild postnatal depression
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): - Laurie Hilder-Quach
This is a gentle manual, non-oil therapy that stimulates the body’s lymphatic system. The lymphatic system circulates the fluid around the body; it is responsible for the removal of toxins and waste product and plays an important role in the body’s immune function.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage can be an effective aid in treating a range of conditions such as fluid retention, sinus disorders, pre and post surgery recovery, rheumatism, bronchitis and asthma. It is also a useful supplementary therapy for conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is highly effective in treating both primary and secondary lymphoedema by removing or preventing lymphatic congestion. Treatment may involve MLD massage, compression bandaging, and advice on exercise and new lifestyle changes to manage the condition.
Ear Candling - Laurie Hilder-Quach
Ear candling has been practiced over many years and in many different countries, including Asia and has been traced back to the Indians of South and North America. The candles can assist in relieving symptoms related to the ear and head. It is a painless procedure that uses heat as its primary application. The candle is placed in the ear with the opposite end alight. The heat of the smoke softens the earwax, which is then drawn into the candle.
The experience of ear candling is very relaxing. As you lay listening to the soft crackling of the candle burning, your therapist softly massages your face, neck and head. This not only feels good but it helps with circulation, assisting the ear candling for a greater result.
SHIATSU / Richard Bligh
Richard has worked in some form of massage since 1997. Zen Shiatsu is Japanese massage delivered with grounding, relaxing pressure
techniques and stretching. This therapy works on the body physically
but also affects changes to the energy flows of the body. It is very
helpful with stress, insomnia, headaches and migraines as well as
musculo-skeletal issues. Clients remain clothed in loose fitting
clothes for treatment.
YOGA / Michael Alder
Yoga is instrumental in improving flexibility and strength in such a way that posture is improved, range of motion is increased and self-confidence results from personal achievement. Breathing techniques and guided relaxation are beneficial in development of self-control and emotional stability. Reduction in stress and related problems such as poor sleep habits can also result from regular yoga practice.
Michael conducts regular yoga classes at Moonee Ponds MindBody Health Centre – his focus in these classes is to bring Yoga into the 21st Century. A mixture of yoga postures is incorporated into his classes – the sequence of postures, breathing and relaxation ensures a balance of exercises for development of strength, improved flexibility and an increase in stamina.
Classes may focus on different styles of yoga sequences, such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, Bikram, and Kundalini, although the main influence is from the teachings of B.K.S Iyengar. During the sessions, a friendly, social atmosphere is encouraged and it forms an important part of Michael’s class structure. All classes finish with a breathing practice session and a guided deep relaxation.
PILATES / Michael Alder
Pilates is for those who wish to increase the fluidity and range of motion of major joints, increase the strength and support provided by the deep abdominal muscles and other core muscles and alleviate problems in the lower back and shoulders, which may have resulted from prolonged poor posture habits. Reduced weight, increased strength and more fluid movements usually result from regular practice of Pilates.
Pilates exercises will often assist in the rehabilitation of injury to the muscles & tissues of the spine, hips and shoulders.
Michael conducts small class groups at the Centre which allow individual issues to be addressed when necessary.
PERSONAL TRAINING / Shaun Sharp
Shaun has training in Exercise Science and Sports Coaching. He has worked with many sporting clubs from the amateur to elite levels.
Since 1989, Shaun has also worked as a Personal Trainer and more recently as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. His clients range from people aiming for a greater level of fitness, to those with injuries looking to get back to a pain-free, fit and healthy lifestyle.
Shaun’s training as a Strength and Conditioning Coach means he has additional knowledge and training when it comes to exercise prescription, movement analysis and functional anatomy.
Shaun is very particular when it comes to determining the right exercises for each client, and his supervision ensures maximum benefits are obtained with minimal risk of injury. Sessions can be individual or in a group setting, and are always fun and relax
OSTEOPATHY /
Osteopathy is a natural, safe and non-invasive form of treatment that is truly holistic. An Osteopath will treat a person as a whole, not just as a knee, or a symptom or a syndrome. As Osteopaths we have a broad spectrum of techniques available to us. These range from ultra-subtle, yet deeply powerful techniques such as Cranial Osteopathy, to structural mobilisation, and rehabilitation.
With this in mind, osteopathy can successfully treat all manner of conditions, such as headaches, tinnitus, arthritis, asthma, limb pain, and of course back pain.
Osteopathy improves more than just the physical body. Because treatment also re-balances the body’s Autonomic Nervous System (the body’s self-regulation mechanism), this results in a reduced stress response, which in turn leads to an improved sense of wellbeing.
