Bowen Therapy, Reiki and Bowen Workshops.
"Creating windows of opportunity for healing and change"
BOWEN THERAPY is a gentle but precise form of soft tissue therapy that was developed and established in the sixties and seventies by Geelong "Osteopath" Tom Bowen. Tom was found in 1975 ( during a government survey on natural therapies) to be treating around 13,000 people a year with over 80% being relieved of all presenting problems.
It was during this period that Tom took on a handful of students teaching them his method of soft tissue manipulation. Following his death in the early eighties it was these students who continued his work gaining International acclaim. The Bowen Technique is now practiced and taught worldwide.
How does Bowen work?
There are few explanations for how Bowen works. The most popular theory explains how the technique uses a series of cross fibre moves selectively placed over muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. These moves stimulate the soft tissue (fascia) found between the muscles and skin creating a window of opportunity for the fascia to become re-hydrated which in turn assists the structures housed within this tissue to improve in function. This process allows the body to begin to heal itself naturally, leading to improved general health.
What to expect in a Bowen session
After taking a medical history and enquiring the reason for your visit, a Bowen Therapist will carry out a series of moves interrupted by rest periods, which are essential to the process. The combination of these moves will address the body as a whole or will help a specific injury or problem.
It is safe to use on almost anybody regardless of age and can be applied directly to the skin or through loose clothing with a session lasting between 30 and 60 minutes. Often lasting relief can be achieved in 2 to 4 treatments, although more are sometimes required depending on the nature of the problem.
Before and After a Bowen Session
It is important to drink the recommended amount of water each day but it is very important before a Bowen session. This is due to the re-hydration of the fascia. Please wear loose comfortable clothing, no jeans or thick clothes.
After treatment it is recommended that you don't over exert yourself even if you feel great. Always contuniue drinking water and do not sit for long periods without getting up and walking around.

REIKI is ancient healing art, which was rediscovered in Japan by Dr Mikau Usui in the mid 1800's. The Usui System of Natural Healing has since grown and spread throughout the world.
A Reiki practitioner uses a sequence of hand positions to transfer healing energy to corresponding charkas, meridians, glands, muscles and organs. Often a deep relaxation or calmness is experienced while receiving a Reiki Treatment.
Reiki can be used on a range of conditions to help restore harmony and balance throughout the whole body. A session generally lasts for 60 minutes.
ABOUT MYSELF
I was born in East Fremantle and grew up in the southern suburbs of Western Australia. After completing an apprentiship as a mechanic, I travelled throughout Australia and South East Asia where I first became interested in Eastern Philosophy and Natural Health Systems.
On returning to Australia I began learning meditation and Tai Chi, it was during this time that my meditation teacher, a Reiki Master, mentioned Reiki and how it has the ability to help heal yourself and others. Several years later I decided to attend a Reiki 1 workshop and what had been a casual interest was now a career changing move.
After completing Reiki 1, 2 and Masters, I then attended several workshops including Kinesiology, Kinergetics, TFT, Massage and Bowen Therapy. But it was Bowen Therapy's effectiveness that helped me decide to continue my studies with Facial Kinetics and become a Bowen Practitioner.
I now find a happy balance between my family, Coaching Basketball and Qi Kung, while working as a Bowen, Reiki Practitioner and a part-time mechanic.
I still continue to study other Natural Therapies believing that there is still so much to learn about the human body, mind and spirit.
