Natural Care Acupuncture

Pain and ill health is bought about by blockages in Qi (energy) and blood according to Oriental beliefs. My aim is to bring your body into balance by clearing any blockages you have which are causing you pain or illness, to enable you to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.

The origins of acupuncture can be traced back at least two thousand years, making it one of the oldest and most long-standing health care systems in the world.

Acupuncture is an effective, natural and extremely popular form of health care that is being used by many people it takes a wholistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes focusing on the prevention of illness as well as the treatment.

When healthy, an abundant supply of qi (energy) flows through the body's meridians (a network of invisible channels through the body). If the flow of qi in the meridians becomes blocked or there is an inadequate supply of qi, then the body fails to maintain harmony, balance and order, and disease or illness follows. This can result from stress, overwork, poor diet, disease pathogens, weather and environmental conditions, and other lifestyle factors and becomes evident to the acupuncturist through observable signs of bodily dysfunction. Acupuncturists look carefully for these signs of health and dysfunction, paying particular attention not only to the presenting signs and symptoms, but also to the medical history, general constitution, and the pulse, tongue and hara (abdominal diagnosis)

Acupuncture

Japanese acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into acupuncture points in your body to redirect energy to allow your body to bring about a natural healing. These needles are used with very shallow insertion sometimes only just touching the skin with no insertion at all.

The pulse and abdomen are palpated to indicate any imbalance and the best form of treatment for you. Acupuncture provides drug free pain relief and effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic health problems. It treats the underlying cause of disease as well as the symptoms, providing a wholistic approach to the treatment of illness, by treating body, mind and emotions as well as assisting in the prevention of disease and the maintenance of general well-being.

There are different forms of Japanese acupuncture and Christine is a practitioner of two of these.
One is with the use of ion pumping cords attached to needles or studs, these cords along with the points they are connected to work to bring increased blood flow to areas of pain to reduce that pain, as well as the blockages in energy which are causing the problem, in order to bring about your healing.

The other form is a non-insertion technique which has been developed by the blind practitioners in Japan. This painless form of acupuncture is very powerful and brings about your healing with the utmost comfort.

What does acupuncture treat?

From the viewpoint of modern medicine, the principle action of acupuncture and moxibustion is to regulate the function of the human body and to increase its resistance by enhancing the immune system and the analgesic abilities of the body.

In an official report, ‘Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials’, the World Health Organization has listed many symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been shown through controlled trials to be treated effectively by acupuncture, some of these are:
  • Headaches
  • Low back pain, neck pain
  • Sciatica
  • Tennis elbow
  • Arthritis
  • Allergic rhinitis and hayfever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Morning sickness in pregnancy
  • Malposition of fetus
  • Neurological conditions
  • Respiratory ailments
  • Digestive disorders
  • Urogenital disorders
  • Gynecology and obstetrics
  • Infertility (male and female)

Infertility, Gynecology and Obstetrics

Combining Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal Medicine is very effective in increasing the lining of the uterus, increasing sperm count in males, regulating hormones, bringing about ovulation and preventing miscarriage. Research has proven that acupuncture is able to increase progesterone levels and regulate FSH, LH and estrogen levels, which can have a positive effect on the ability to fall pregnant, as these hormones need to be in balance in order for a woman to conceive. Acupuncture is able to regulate these hormones by balancing the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis also being able to regulate reproductive and stress hormones bringing a balance to the menstrual cycle thus allowing the body to be more fertile with the view to a viable pregnancy. Research has also shown that acupuncture immediately before and after embryo transfer increased the success rate of a viable pregnancy from 26.3% to 42.5%. The most effective way to approach this form of acupuncture is to have the treatments twice weekly for 2 months prior to IVF and during the cycle, or to use the treatments for 3 to 6 months if used alone without IVF. This of course can vary as the menstrual cycle must be balanced and regulated before a viable pregnancy can occur.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is the burning of the herb mugwort on acu-points or areas of pain or weakness, it radiates an immense amount of heat into your body to bring about pain relief, by moving the stagnation that has accumulated to create the pain you are experiencing.

Eastern Cupping

Suction cups are placed on areas of tightness or knots in muscle tissue to soften the masses and relieve pain. They can also be applied to your body to draw out cold, and in some cases can be used as a whole treatment for certain disorders.

Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy

Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy (APIT) is an advanced Acupuncture Technique in which a small amount of saline solution (Sodium Chloride) is injected into acupuncture points surrounding a painful joint or area of the body to speed up the recovery of that painful area. APIT is used in conjunction with your normal Acupuncture consultation or in severe painful conditions may be used on its own to relieve your pain before further treating your condition with a full acupuncture treatment at another consultation time.

Some conditions which have responded to Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy include:
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Acute Wrist Sprain
  • Acute Wry Neck
  • Sprained Ankle
  • Midpoint Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Iliotibial Friction Syndrome (Knee pain)
  • Greater Trocanteric Bursitis(lateral hip pain)
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Piriformis Syndrome

Chinese Herbs

I use Chinese Medicines, if necessary, as an adjunct to the acupuncture treatments I will be giving you to aid your body to heal as quickly as possible.Chinese herbal medicine takes an wholistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment. In addition to providing effective treatment for a wide range of health disorders, Chinese herbal medicine may also be used to assist with general health maintenance and disease prevention. By strengthening and enhancing normal body functions, the immune system is boosted and a general sense of well-being promoted.

Neuro Emotional Technique

Emotions such as fear, anger, grief and many others can negatively affect us long after the original event that cased them. When our body fails to "let go" of these emotions we can find ourselves with unexplained aversions, self-sabotaging behaviors, destructive beliefs, phobias and many chronic physical problems!

While emotions are perfectly normal, they sometimes produce behaviors years later that are counterproductive to our health. The Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) approach helps you to identify, and let go of, "stuck" emotional patterns which are causing you grief in many areas of your life.netmindbody.com
