About Lisa Gilmour

Lisa Gilmour, Acupuncturist & practice principal, completed her Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture at UTS in Sydney in the mid 90's & shortly after completed a Master's Degree in Health Science (Ch Med) at the same university.

Lisa has practiced in the Hawkesbury for over 10 years utilising the best of Western & Eastern Therapies to help her patients / clients improve their health, state of mind, find relief from chronic pain & illness as well as improve vitality to get more out of life. Lisa has a relaxed, caring style & works closely with those seeking her advice & treatments.

Scientific explanation of Acupuncture

Acupuncture points are sites where nerves can be stimulated, and acupuncture is a method of stimulating nerves and muscles. Acupuncture releases various neurotransmitters including endogenous opioids and serotonin. Administration of naloxone (an opioid antagonist) prevents acupuncture-associated analgesia.

Acupuncture stimulates large, myelinated, rapidly conduction A-delta nerve fibres, which may decrease transmission of painful sensations of via slower, unmyelinated C fibres.

About Your Acupuncture Treatment

Certain conditions may experience a temporary exacerbation of symptoms - this can be a normal response to the stimulation of treatment & actually proves to be a positive step in your body's healing.

You may need to visit more frequently initially - though it is our aim to spread your treatments out as soon as your body is ready. Some ailments may only require one or two sessions, whilst others will need many.

Does Acupuncture Really Increase IVF Success Rates?

Australian Acupuncture researchers replicated the success rates of a European Acupuncture & IVF study in the late 1990's - the success rates of this study have now been replicated several times, showing marked increase in IVF Pregnancy rates when correct acupuncture techniques are used.

How Many Treatments are Needed?

Lisa treats IVF candidates a minimum of two times, however treatment programs are individualised according to each candidates requirements.

Some women require only minimal treatment whilst many will choose to have a course of acupuncture treatment throughout their IVF program. This will help their body to cope with IVF as well as smooth out the emotional rollercoaster often caused by IVF hormone supplements.

Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is different to other therapies in the way it looks at illness (or imbalance) in our body.

Just because you have a similar symptom(s) to somebody else, doesn't mean your body is the same as theirs - in fact it's quite different. Chinese Medicine recognises this and can therefore prescribe treatments geared to your particular body and make-up. This is why Chinese Medicine can still treat your health problem even if your doctor can't give it a name!

You know when you don't feel right. Chinese Medicine can help to correct health issues either before they become major (nameable) health problems or as an adjunct to other/conventional treatments if you are suffering from a pre-identified illness.

After a consultation about your presenting issue or symptoms, your treatment may include one or all of the following:

• Dietary recommendations (according to your Chinese Medicine diagnosis)

A full or initial consultation takes about an hour. No consultation fee is charged to re-purchase your Chinese Medicine formula unless you need us to change your prescription.
