Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Naturopath?

Naturopathy is a type of Natural Medicine that uses nutritious foods, herbal medicine, supplements and lifestyle modifications to achieve health on many levels.

A Naturopath can guide you to achieve and maintain the greatest of health, and may also be able to assist in the prevention of some common illnesses

By looking at all levels of your health – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – a well-rounded picture is assessed and nurtured to help you achieve the best of health.

A Naturopath treats the person as a whole and always attempt to find the cause.

What can a Naturopath do for me?

A Naturopath uses the above mentioned tools to assist with conditions such as:

  • poor sleep

  • stress

  • poor memory

  • low energy

  • general male and female reproductive disorders such as poor libido or infertility

  • thyroid conditions

  • digestive problems like constipation, irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn's disease

  • depression and anxiety

  • allergies and food intolerances

  • high cholesterol

  • eczema

  • headaches

  • osteoarthritis

  • anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa

  • diabetes

  • ... the list goes on!

Preventative tools are available to assist with the list above as well as:

  • colds and the 'flu

  • bronchitis and chest infections

  • weight gain or loss

  • ...and most other chronic diseases.

A Naturopath can also help you to achieve and/or maintain a generally healthy lifestyle.

I want to have treatment for something that isn't listed above. Can a Naturopath still help me?

Everybody is different. It is best to contact a Naturopath to understand how to best approach treatment. If Naturopathic treatment is not right for you, appropriate recommendations or referrals will be made to ensure your health needs are assessed in the most efficient manner.

How do I know if I should see a Naturopath?

Only you will know this answer! If you feel this is the right option for you, it is best to contact a Naturopath that best suits your needs. Since you are discussing sensitive health information, choose someone that delivers what you would like from a therapeutic relationship. Someone who you are comfortable with and who respects you.

A good Naturopath knows their strengths and their limitations. If there is any part of the treatment which Sarah feels needs further attention, a referral to the appropriate professional will ensure your health is continually paid the attention it deserves.

What can I expect from a Naturopathic Consultation?

A good Naturopath will take about an hour of your time on the initial consultation to gain an understanding of your health needs, your current health status and what you hope to achieve from the session.

Your previous medical history, family medical history and any other health concerns you may have are documented. Your Naturopath will then ask questions about your diet, your sleep, energy levels and other lifestyle habits. All of this information is put together so as to create a whole picture of your health, and as a point of reference for future consultations.

During the consultation, you may have your blood pressure measured to further outline who you are and how your body functions.

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”
- Chinese Proverb

Your Naturopath is there to work with you on the path to better health. Education is paramount to successfully achieve your health goals. Your Naturopath is your teacher and facilitator; however, this education will require implementation by you.

Your health is the most important asset you can own and will also require input from your end of the therapeutic relationship. This will empower you to create and achieve your own health goals.

Can I keep taking my regular medications if I see a Naturopath?

This depends on what your GP recommends and what you would like your Naturopath to help you with. Often it takes a team approach to assist in your health needs and every practitioner you see, including your GP, needs to know your current medications and supplements. It is always wise to consult with your GP if you are unsure.

A Naturopath will be able to optimise your treatment when they have the full picture of you and your health.

If you have any questions about Naturopathy or if you would like to discuss your health goals, please contact Sarah on 0401 562 464 for a confidential chat
