Pregnancy Acupuncture - Ngaio Richards
Pregancy is a very natural state of being, and not an illness. Even so, the majority of pregnate women will experience at least one of the common ailments of pregnancy. Following is a brief list of pregnancy related health issues which Ngaio would treat with acupuncture on a daily basis, with significant success:
* morning sickness
* insomnia
* sinus congestion
* emotional and physical exhaustion
* headaches
* back pain, sciatica
* fear & anxiety
* breech, posterior & transverse presentation
* induction of labour
* facilitation of labour
* labour failing to progress
* breast feeding difficulties & mastitis
* postpartum recovery
These conditions are often difficult to alleviate conventionally and most women are reluctant to take western pharmaceutical drugs unless it is absolutely essential.
Fortunately, pregnancy acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment option for many of these ailments.
HOW OFTEN WOULD TREATMENT BE REQUIRED?
This is an individually decided process, however weekly treatments are appropriate in most cases during the treatment of a particular condition. If the condition is acute, more frequent treatments may be required.
With respect to breech presentation, in addition to 1 or 2 acupuncture treatments, patients will be directed towards specific daily home therapy to facilitate the turning process. The success rate for this is between 70-75% effective.
If there are no ongoing health issues, monthly pregnancy acupuncture treatments are good to help keep you in tip-top shape.
Weekly pre-labour treatments for 4 weeks prior to your due date are recommended. For induction of 'overdue' labour, daily treatments are sometimes required.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can also assist threatened or repeated miscarriage, as well as assisting with the emotional and psychological aspects of terminations, miscarriage and stillbirth. Regaining your strength postpartum (no matter how short or how long your pregnancy was) after these processes is vital.
IN REGARD TO FERTILITY...
Experienced gardeners will testify to the fact that if we decide to create a garden, we do not just stick seeds into the ground and hope that they grow into healthy plants. To grow a lush healthy garden, first we till and build-up the soil, allowing it to sit a while to enable absorption and integration of the fertilizers before we plant the seed.
We also know that some seed is of better quality than others. The better the health of the parents, the better the health of their babies.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine originated well over 2,000 years ago. It is based upon a fundamentally different paradigm to western medicine. This does not render either medicine less valid. Because of its demonstrated effectiveness in the areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are options of which Australian women should be made aware.
Acupuncture treatment also provides the opportunity to chill-out and get in tune with the body. According to Chinese classics, a good acupuncture treatment is
