Welcome to Noosa Shiatsu & Acupuncture
Shiatsu is about balance and harmony, both within ourselves and between us and our environment. It can stabilise the internal system and help to rebalance the stress of success-based western society. offering relaxation and peace of mind.
Shiatsu is a form of acupressure born out of traditional Oriental Medicine. The name is simply Japanese for ‘finger pressure’. Shiatsu is however, more than just finger pressure, more than just a massage: all usable parts of the therapist’s body are called on in treatment, including thumbs, elbows, heel of the hand, forearms and even knees, all applied in an economical, almost lazy way. The patient is fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing on a futon on the floor, (Shiatsu can be adapted to the chair for the elderly or for others who are unable to get down to floor level), and the practitioner applies pressure to balance the flow of electromagnetic energy, known in Japan as ‘ki’. The shiatsu practitioner is looking to restore a healthy integrity to the body’s energy system.
Shiatsu is a therapeutic practice that can support individuals in moving towards greater health and well being. The therapy/massage is mainly used to regulate the healthy body and to prevent illness. But shiatsu therapy can also be used to address specific health problems and conditions such as: back pain, stress, headaches, menstrual problems, joint pain, reduced mobility and many sports injuries among other ailments.
