What is Pilates?

Pilates is a body-conditioning programme designed to teach efficient movement patterns and provide general well being using controlled exercises and deliberate breathing patterns.

Pilates is a mind-body exercise system which aims to increase muscle control and improve balance and flexibility. There is a strong emphasis on correct breathing designed to create harmony between mind and body.

Pilates emphasises consciously controlled movements and encourages correct muscle sequencing. The exercises require attention to detail and concentration. The results include strengthening particular muscles and their action as well as smooth controlled movement patterns.

Joseph Pilates believed that “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” He defined physical fitness as “the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.”

What is the ChiBall™ method?

The ChiBall™ Method™ is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and incorporates a synergy of six ancient and modern exercise philosophies to promote balance and wellbeing; Tai Chi, Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais and Meditation. It integrates TCM‘s theory of yin and yang, chi – our vital energy, the meridian system, and the five seasonal elements. The ChiBall™ Method™ is a unique holistic exercise programme that changes with the seasons to promote balance and well-being throughout the year.

The ChiBall™ movements and meditations are based on Chinese medicine’s preventive practices that enhance optimal function of your body, mind and emotions that help you to constantly rebalance all areas of your life.

An authentic ChiBall™ class uses a combination of all six exercise concepts, seamlessly blended into a 60 minute class with music, designed to balance, harmonise and rejuvenate the body’s internal energy systems.



ZUMBA

The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. The aim is simple: to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. Zumba® Fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!

The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've got a Zumba® class!

Annebé's background in Dance Fitness and Pilates have inspired her to create safe, fun and varied Zumba Fitness® classes using fantastic music and great moves that are suitable for everyone!



About Us

Northern Beaches Pilates, located in one of the most stunning regions of Sydney, is owned by Northern Beaches local, Annebé Pettersen. As principal of Northern Beaches Pilates, Annebé draws from 30 years experience in Classical Ballet and Dance, Health and Fitness, and Pilates...

At the age of 20, Annebé took over a ballet school which she ran successfully for a total
of 16 years. During this time she completed a Bachelor of Social Work at Sydney University.

In 1991 Annebé gained her Fitness Leader Certification and taught Aerobics in a number of local Gyms and Fitness Centres, exercising her genuine interest in people and their well being. With this in mind, Annebé became a Certified Pilates Instructor in 2001 and Northern Beaches Pilates was opened soon after, allowing her to further help clients achieve their health and fitness goals, improve flexibility and mobility as well as relieve stress, aches and pains.

Northern Beaches Pilates offers an extensive range of graded Pilates classes suitable for men and women of all levels of fitness. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, Annebé brings to her classes precise technique, experience, variety and lots of fun. Class sizes are small to ensure individual attention to all clients and are always varied through the use of equipment such as Magic Circles, Chi-balls, thera-bands and Fitballs.
