Northside Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic
Enjoy increased vitality and relief from health problems such as muscular aches and pains, headache, digestive problems, menstrual disorders, skin complaints, respiratory disorders, sleep problems, stress and tiredness, emotional imbalance or cold and flu.
You can also come for a regular “tune up” to maintain good health and to release energy blockages before they become serious health problems.
EVERY TREATMENT IS TAILORED TO YOU. No two individuals are alike and so every treatment looks at your whole body’s function to address your unique pattern of health imbalance. We will ask you about your energy, appetite, sleep, emotions, pain symptoms, diet, elimination, menstrual patterns, sweating and other specific signs and symptoms that point to an individual diagnosis. Once your unique pattern of disharmony has been identified, a carefully constructed treatment plan of acupuncture and/or herbal medicine can address your immediate symptoms as well as nourishing and supporting your underlying constitution to strengthen your body against further imbalance and disease.
MAKE SENSE OF YOUR HEALTH PROBLEMS. You may be amazed that separate symptoms that you thought were isolated and coincidental actually make sense in an overall pattern of disharmony according to Chinese medicine theory. You might feel embarrassed to come in with a list of “minor” health complaints, but after careful questioning and application of Chinese medicine theory, you will see how all of your health issues are interrelated, how they might have arisen and also how they can be treated through herbs, acupuncture, diet and lifestyle factors. You can regain a sense of control and understanding about your health and feel assured that all of your symptoms make sense because your body is a dynamic and united whole.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR PAIN RELIEF
WHY LIVE WITH PAIN!!! Do you suffer from pain that interferes with your life? Debilitating pain can prevent you from enjoying your favourite activities and having a rewarding working life.
DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF - try the relief that acupuncture can provide. Acupuncture is a technique of using fine, hair-like needles that can go directly to the source of your pain, often bringing immediate relief and a feeling of relaxation. As well as targeting the painful areas, special points on other areas of the body are used to bring the body’s energy back into balance.
For thousands of years, the Chinese people have used acupuncture as a safe and effective method to relieve the day to day problem of pain, from acute to chronic problems. More and more people are discovering how efficient and reliable acupuncture can be for gaining relief.
HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD by your general practitioner that there is nothing to be done for your condition, and that you will need to take pain killers on a day to day basis as the only form of relief available to you? The side effects of such a treatment regime can damage your body and do not address the underlying imbalance in your body’s functioning.
DISCOVER FOR YOURSELF the relief that can be obtained from acupuncture for a whole range of debilitating conditions. Never believe that there isn't any hope for improvement in your condition, that relief is unobtainable or that you just have to suffer and put up with pain.
MOXIBUSTION is an ancient technique of warming the acupuncture needle with the herb mugwort. The smouldering herb is placed on the end of the needle, creating a warmth that transfers down the needle and penetrates to the deepest level of muscle tissue, bringing a soothing feeling that relaxes the muscle and brings you a wonderful sense of relaxation and relief.
CUPPING has been practiced in China for centuries. A flame is used to quickly create a vacuum inside a glass cup that is then placed on painful areas such as your back or on the backs of your legs. The feeling of cupping is unique and satisfying – the suction lifts the underlying muscle, stimulating energy and blood circulation to wash away blockage and stagnation, leaving the whole area feeling relaxed and invigorated.
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE is a great way to continue the benefits of your acupuncture treatment between visits. The herbs come as water-soluble granules, capsules or herbal pills, which are convenient for your busy lifestyle. Herbal medicine can improve the circulation of Qi (vital energy) or Blood to remove blockages that cause pain. Herbal medicine can also address the underlying imbalances in your constitution, to strengthen your body against disease and strain.
MENSTRUAL AND MENOPAUSE PROBLEMS
PERIOD PAIN IS NOT NORMAL! Many women are amazed to learn that period pain is not normal, according to Chinese medicine theory. An ancient medical proverb says that “where there is blockage there is pain and where there is no blockage there is no pain.” We will assess your whole body’s condition to diagnose the cause of your period pain and then prescribe herbs and/or acupuncture to improve circulation of Qi (vital energy) and Blood, nourish weakness or clear toxicity. Period pain can be greatly reduced or even eliminated, allowing you to enjoy your activities and work without the monthly interruption to your life.
PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME (PMS) can disrupt your life and cause unnecessary stress. Symptoms may include irritability, mood swings, tearfulness, headache, abdominal ache, bloating and constipation or diarrhoea. Acupuncture and/or herbal medicine can correct the underlying imbalance, relieve symptoms, improve mood and sleep and increase your feeling of wellbeing.
IRREGULAR PERIODS are not only inconvenient, they also point to underlying imbalances in your body’s functioning. With herbs and/or acupuncture, the imbalance can be addressed so that your periods become regular, giving you the confidence that your body is back in harmony and allowing you to predict when your period arrives each month.
ABSENT PERIODS (Amenorrhoea) also signify an imbalance in your body’s condition and have been associated with long-term changes such as osteoporosis. A thorough diagnosis will determine your particular pattern of disharmony and herbs and/or acupuncture can address this imbalance, often leading to resumption of a normal cycle.
LONG OR HEAVY PERIODS can be very inconvenient and can deplete your body’s store of Qi (vital energy) and Blood, gradually weakening your body’s condition over time. Whether your heavy or prolonged periods are due to underlying weakness or a build up of toxicity, a thorough investigation and diagnosis can determine the pattern of your body’s disharmony and address these imbalances, leading to periods that are normal in flow and duration.
INFERTILITY can result from blockages, weakness or toxicity. Looking at a chart of your menstruation and daily body temperature, we can tailor your treatment to assist ovulation, enrich the uterine lining or soothe the fetus to protect against miscarriage.
The number of women that I see for this sometimes quite distressing problem is increasing every month, most leave the clinic after a consultation reasured that this is not something that can't be rectified, and that there is no such thing as a woman of child bearing age and in resonable health that can not concieve normally.
I also work in conjunction with IVF clinics, and the Acupuncture treatments used before and after collection and transfers has been statistically proven with research to increase the success rate by 50-60% most IVF clinics will recommend acupuncture to their clients as a supplementary treatment.
PREGNANCY Acupuncture is very beneficial during pregnancy, during the first trimester, nausea and vomitting are an unfortunate occurance for some women acupuncture greatly reduces the effects of "morning sickness" and or "all day sickness" in some severe cases.
Threatened Miscarriage is another area where acupuncture can help retain fetus and stop lower abdominal cramping and spotting, most Obstetricians and Gyneacologists adopt a wait and see approach in this situation, and there is really nothing that they can offer a women in this unfortunate situation, acupuncture has proven successful in a number of
instances in my clinic.
Reflux, Fluid Retention, Back and Pubic Symphisis pain, Breech position, can all be successfully treated with Acupuncture and Moxibustion
At 34 weeks the women return to my clinic for pre birth acupuncture treatments once a week, these treatments help soften the tendons and sinews in the pelvis and hips, helps ripen and dilate the cervix and generally calm the mother in the last few weeks of her pregnancy.
It has statistically been shown that women who have these weekly acupuncture treatments in most cases go into natural labour without the need for induction and that the need for epidurals is halved, their labour time on average is three to four and a half hours shorter and most of the women I see comment on how easy their labour and births have been compared to their previouschildren and in the first time mothers as well.
At due date if there is a need for inducton acupuncture can stimulate and produce contractions aiding the woman to go into natural labour with out the trauma of medical induction.
MENOPAUSE can be associated with unpleasant and troubling symptoms such as hot flushes, dizziness, dryness, mood swings, irritability, forgetfulness, anxiety, headaches, tiredness and night sweating. Herbs and/or acupuncture can address the imbalances that are leading to your symptoms, improving your quality of life and allowing you to enjoy this phase in your life. “Menopause is not a disease, it is the normal physiological transition from a reproductive to a non-reproductive age” (Giovanni Maciocia).
DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS
