SERVICES
"After several visits to the physiotherapist and the chiropractor over a number of years to get treatment for my stiff neck, I was fortunate enough to meet Janine McCarthy a few years ago. Like most people, I had never heard of Ortho-Bionomy, but I was willing to try anything to relieve my constant neck pain. I have never looked back. I had 3 years of cricking my neck at the slightest sharp movement where I would be unable to turn my head in any direction for days at a time) after only 4 sessions with Janine this has never recurred."

Ortho-Bionomy: the correct use of the principles of life
In Ortho-Bionomy we use the Osteopathic principle “structure governs function” and the Homoeopathic principle “less is more”
Ortho-Bionomy was developed by a British Osteopath, Arthur Lincoln Pauls, who discovered that by using less force with his clients he could stimulate their self-corrective reflexes, reminding them of their natural alignment and balance. Ortho-Bionomy is a powerful yet gentle approach for pain relief and self-education. It will relieve even chronic pain and teach you how to look after your body so you can be comfortable again, for all your reasons.
Who should see an Ortho-Bionomy Practitioner?
Ortho-Bionomy Practitioners work with the same conditions as chiropractors, osteopaths, physiotherapists and remedial masseurs. These therapists sometimes refer their clients to Ortho-Bionomists when progress is slow or the client needs more options to enhance recovery. Ortho-Bionomy clients enjoy the pain-free and lasting effects of Ortho-Bionomy; as there are no forceful adjustments or painful manipulations it is safe and effective for everyone from babies to adults.
How to eliminate pain with Ortho-Bionomy
Using comfortable, non-invasive positioning, Ortho-Bionomy harnesses the self-corrective responses of your muscles. Tense muscles are engaged and released to realign and support the joints they operate.
Ortho-Bionomy promotes your body’s natural ability and vitality to heal.
The effects are achieved in just a few sessions and have long-lasting results. This means that you’ll feel better faster, get back to your daily routine quicker and still have money to spend.
Ortho-Bionomy is an ideal therapy to:
- Speed up your recovery from injuries, surgery, muscle sprains, broken bones
- Relieve constant pain in your back, neck, shoulders (eg ‘frozen shoulder’, chronic back pain)
- Restore comfort and flexibility to your stiff, worn-out knees and elbows
- Improve your posture or other structural problems (eg scoliosis, ‘hunched’ posture)
- Enhance your recovery from stress or trauma, calming your nervous system
"I was pleasantly surprised to find how well this gentle yet effective modality worked. I felt very grounded and relaxed and over the next couple of days I noticed my body making subtle adjustments towards becoming pain-free. It is refreshing to discover a modality that is so effective you may only require 1 or 2 sessions to actually resolve your problem! I've had many painful treatment sessions over the years that I wished would end quickly, but this is definitely not the case with Ortho-Bionomy!
Being a body worker and health practitioner myself I had no hesitation in referring many of my clients (and friends) to Janine and the feedback I have received reflects that Ortho-Bionomy does in fact work for a very wide range of injuries and conditions. I highly recommend you experience it for yourself."

What happens in an Ortho-Bionomy session?
Firstly, your Ortho-Bionomy practitioner will assess your body's current state of alignment. Then she will move your body into comfortable positions designed to release tension and pain in your muscles. This will encourage your body to self-correct and find its natural balance. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for maximum freedom of movement.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need only two or three sessions to achieve significant pain relief and postural re-education. Chronic conditions may require more sessions, however Janine will give you release positions and postural exercises to use at home to help speed up your recovery and reduce the number of sessions you need.

Ortho-Bionomy for children:
Are you looking for a gentle way to help your baby settle or improve your child’s posture and coordination?
Many babies need help to regain their natural body alignment after birth. More children experience birth interventions than ever before, and these can create discomfort and imbalance that make sleeping, feeding and moving difficult for our babies. Addressing these issues in infancy or childhood allows the movement reflexes to progress uninterrupted, enhancing physical coordination and concentration at school and preventing patterns of postural imbalance from developing.
Ortho-Bionomy can:
- Restore natural alignment for babies who have experienced birth interventions
- Improve settling and sleeping
- Balance both sides of body for breastfeeding and movement
- Relieve colic and digestive problems
- Promote natural crawling & movement reflexes
- Promote eye-hand coordination and body balance for ball games and other physical activities,
- Improve concentration, reading, writing & listening skills
- Relieve growing pains and joint problems
"My 10 month-old daughter used to drag her right leg as she “crawled” around, pushing off the floor with her left foot. Just 24 hours after a single Ortho-Bionomy session with Janine, my daughter started crawling normally – the leg dragging disappeared totally, never to be seen again. I was extremely impressed with Janine’s gentle technique, her calm and reassuring manner and her thorough knowledge and understanding of her profession."

Ortho-Bionomy for women:
Do you want a pain-free way to relieve menstrual symptoms and restore balance to your body's natural cycles?
Pelvic imbalance and posture patterns can shift the position of the uterus and ovaries, which in turn communicate imbalance throughout the body via the hormones. Ortho-Bionomy can painlessly restore the natural alignment of the pelvis and the organs nestled within it, returning your cycle to its natural balance, reducing pain and bringing comfort to the whole body.
Ortho-Bionomy restores balance for:
- PMS symptoms
- Irregular cycles
- Fertility
- Endometriosis
- Hormonal imbalances
- Menopause/Perimenopause
- Discomfort in pregnant and post-natal mothers
What Janine’s clients have to say about Ortho-Bionomy:
"I had an inflamed, very sore wrist. Janine's treatment was gentle, relaxing and outstandingly successful. I came out of the session walking on air."
P. Davies, Thornbury
"I, and my two children, have been seeing Janine over the past 2 years. I tried Ortho-Bionomy because my teeth were cracking after years of grinding and tension in my jaw. The pain and tension have now disappeared, and even my dentist has been impressed with the changes. Janine’s gentle approach has also helped me release significant stress patterns in my body. With Ortho-Bionomy and the empowering exercises that I can do at home I have achieved a consistent and balanced state of health and wellbeing. I would highly recommend Janine to adults and children alike."
