SERVICES
Sports Massage

You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage. It’s useful for anyone with chronic pain, injury or range-of-motion issues.

Originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training, sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons.

After a consultation which includes a range of motion / flexibility assessment, I will generally concentrate on a specific problem area. The techniques I use are designed to increase endurance and performance, minimise the likelihood of injury and, if you’re seeking treatment for a pre-existing injury, help reduce the recovery time.

Background

As a keen distance runner, I know just how important the role of massage is in recovery and injury prevention. Having sustained a few injuries myself over the years (mainly through over-exuberance and inability to curb my enthusiasm when I first started running!), massage has helped me to recover faster from injury and has enabled me to train harder in the longer term. I have worked primarily with runners, cyclists (and even a few dancers!) to help with their ongoing conditioning, injury prevention and recovery.

What Can Sports Massage Do For You?

Sports massage can treat a variety of ailments and injuries that may occur as a result of exercise. It also has other benefits that allow you to train or exercise more efficiently, such as:
  • reducing muscle
  • tension
  • promoting flexibility
  • increasing blood circulation
  • relieving swelling
  • relieving pain
  • preventing injuries
  • draining away fatigue
  • treating injuries that occur as a result of overexertion or overuse
  • improving heart rate and blood pressure
  • treating injuries such as shin splints, tennis elbows, sprains, strains, etc

Sports massage can also include...

Pre-event massage
A short massage, given 15-45 minutes before the event. It’s designed to warm up the muscles and get the blood circulating!

Post-event massage
Given within an hour or two of the event, to normalize the body's tissue and assist with metabolite removal.

Maintenance massage
Given during training to allow you to train harder and with less injury.

Rehabilitative sports massage
Aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to health.

Fees
60 minutes | $50.00
30 minutes | $35.00
