Naturopathic Care
What’s the difference between a Doctor and a Naturopath?
Naturopathic Care at The Period Pain Guru looks at treating the cause of your illness or imbalance, not just the symptoms. Herbal and Nutritional medicine differ from drugs because they bring the body back into balance.
For example, if you are deficient in a particular nutrient, this can have an impact on how the way things work in your body, because your body relies on nutrients to do this.
The Period Pain Guru's ethos is to empower women about their own health, so that they know what is going on in their body and why. The Period Pain Guru offers different choices to orthodox medicine, but does work along side the medical community- at the end of the day, it's about optimal health and natural therapies plays an important role in this arena.
What happens in a consultation?
A naturopathic consultation is similar to that of a doctor’s consultation. You are asked lots of questions in a warm and friendly environment. However, a naturopath wants to really get to know you and the cause of your health issues. The initial consultation takes an hour & 15 mins, and follow up consultations are 30 minutes.
The questions that are asked in the consultation aim to find the cause of the imbalance in your body. From these questions, a naturopathic treatment plan will be made up for you.
Testing will be conducted in the initial consultation to find out the pH of your body and the state of your gut flora.
Additional tests may be requested, depending on each individual.
How does treatment differ from that of a doctor’s medicine?
You may be asked to take some nutritional and herbal medicine. The herbs and nutrients that The Period Pain Guru uses are very different to the ones that you find on the shelf at your local health food store. At The Period Pain Guru, we use Practitioner- Only products to get you optimal results, quickly.
Sometimes Lifestyle and Dietary Changes are recommended. Although it is not essential to make these changes, it will enhance your health outcomes. These changes can be negotiated with Andrea, so that they are ‘do-able’ for you.
Where is the science?
Naturopathic medicine has just as much to offer as western medicine, in a different way. And yes, there are more and more studies being done on naturopathic medicine. If you are curious to look further, then please look at the AMED database.
Naturopathic treatment has been around for 100’s of years. In fact, herbal medicine was being used before current western medicine came about and it is still being used as the primary source of healthcare in many countries.
Naturopathy is now of a university degree level.
Why Period Pain?
Can you remember being told that period pain and menstrual cramps are ‘normal’?
It may have been your mum, doctor or a friend that has never had a cramp in her life.
Despite what many women are told period pain and menstrual cramps often indicate a hormonal imbalance.
You may have been told that the only solution for stopping menstrual cramps is to go on ‘The Pill’ or take pain -relief medication. These solutions can give you some relief, but don’t fix your hormone imbalance.
You Have Options.
Period pain is usually caused by an imbalance between your estrogen and progesterone, although in some women testosterone can play a part as well.
Natural remedies for pms assist in stopping menstrual cramps and the associated symptoms. They also work at a deeper level, addressing the cause of your hormone imbalance, alleviating your pain, fixing the cause of your imbalance.
Hormone Test & Imbalance
Women’s Intuition
We know something is wrong with our hormones. We have all the symptoms telling us that out hormones are out of whack, but when we get a blood test, sometimes it says that our hormones are ‘normal’.
Saliva Hormone Testing confirms those niggling (or not so niggling) symptoms that won’t show up in a blood test.
Where Is My Hormone Imbalance?
There are so many hormones, how do we know which one is upsetting the apple cart? By testing all of your girlie hormones, we can determine which hormone(s) are causing trouble to the rest of them.
The Scientific Facts
Saliva Hormone Testing is conducted in a fully accredited laboratory. Saliva Hormone Testing measures your ‘active hormones’. By using saliva to measure your hormones, mild and moderate symptoms will show up which may have otherwise been missed in a blood test.
I want to test my hormones, what’s the next step?
At ‘The Period Pain Guru’ you are not just a test, you’re a whole person. In your consultation, we will work out the best day to take the test (because your hormones change over the month) and from there we will work out how to individually treat your hormones.
So Saliva Hormone Testing will help us determine which hormones are out of whack and why. This will help us return your hormones back to optimal health.
