If you are suffering from anxiety and issues related to addictions (either yourself or a family member, partner or friend) I have a special interest and expertise in addressing these problems. I also offer counselling for individuals to work through other issues affecting their well being.
The basic framework of my counselling is a person centred approach inspired by the work of Carl Rogers, the founder of person centred counselling. Central to this approach is the development of a therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and client in which the client feels accepted and understood. The quality of this relationship between client and counsellor provides an environment in which the client can begin to move towards self acceptance and self understanding.
SERVICES I am also able to draw on experiential therapeutic techniques such as meditation, dream work, art and narrative therapies ( e.g. when clients find such therapies beneficial in alleviating anxiety or addressing the issues around shame and guilt).
I have counselled both people with addiction problems and their family members, partners and friends. I have also conducted research investigating the experience of addiction and withdrawal and recovery. My research highlighted the need to address the shame and guilt which often underlies the anxiety and anger experienced by those suffering from diverse forms of addiction.
I offer one hour counselling sessions for $80 and discount packages for longer term clients who need financial assistance.
