Treatments
Peter’s gentle, yet powerfully effective approach to treatment has developed from study and clinical practice in Australia, China and Vietnam. Peter's style of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic form of therapy which aims to restore and maintain a healthy body, mind and emotional state. Peter utilizes various techniques which work by stimulating the release of naturally occurring chemicals within your body, which balance all of the regulatory systems (i.e. nervous, hormonal, immune etc). These techniques also promote blood, lymphatic and other body fluid circulation within your body. Peter tailors each treatment to your needs by relieving acute symptoms whilst simultaneously addressing the underlying cause of the problem.
Acupuncture is the use of super-fine, hair-like needles into specific points on the body in order to re-balance the regulatory systems of the body. For this reason, it can treat an extremely broad range of disorders. An acupuncture treatment is rarely painful – sensations can vary from nothing to a slight tingle to a deep “pulling” sensation – and is usually both calming and relaxing. Peter’s gentle technique allows him to treat children. He uses only single-use disposable needles.
Moxibustion is the burning of a herb over acupuncture points in order to provide a gentle warmth. Peter uses it to relieve pain/spasms, relax stiff muscles/joints and stimulate the reproductive, digestive, respiratory and immune systems. It is also becoming increasingly renowned for its ability to turn a baby in breech position.
Cupping is the use of vacuum cups to stimulate blood circulation to a particular area of the body. The increased blood flow maximizes the nourishment of the tissue and helps the immune system to clear the by-products of inflammation. For this reason, cupping is an excellent therapy for stiff/painful muscles.
Fertility and Pregnancy Support is the major focus at Fertile Ground Health Group. Peter treats both male and female infertility, provides preconception care in order to ensure both partners are in optimal health at the time of conception, treats pregnancy issues (morning sickness, uterine bleeding during pregnancy, pain/discomfort, fatigue, fluid retention, preparation and induction of labour etc.) as well as post-partum disorders. He also provides support treatment during all stages of IVF cycles, including pre and post-embryo transfer. Recent research has backed up Peter’s confidence that acupuncture at this stage of the IVF procedure increases its success rate.
Gua Sha is a technique utilizing a smooth round-edged tool to rub along muscle fibers. It promotes blood flow to the superficial areas of the muscle, and is an excellent way to relieve muscular tension and knots. It is a simple technique to perform and Peter is happy to show people how to do it on themselves in order to enhance the healing process.

What should I expect during a Chinese Medicine treatment?
For your initial consultation, it is advisable to arrive 5 minutes early in order to fill out a short administration form. Peter will then ask you various questions relating directly to your reason/s for seeking treatment (It is useful for you to have thought about such things as when your complaint started; any things that aggravate or relieve the condition etc). You will then be asked questions about your general health and family history. Peter will then ask to see your tongue, as tongue diagnosis is an important tool for acupuncturists. For this reason, it is recommended that you don’t brush your tongue on the day of the consultation, or drink coffee/tea/cola drinks less than 1 hour before as these can alter the appearance of the tongue. Peter will also take your pulse.
Once he has arrived at a diagnosis, Peter will devise a treatment plan utilizing the techniques described above. At the end of the treatment, he may also suggest lifestyle/diet recommendations.
