SERVICES

Welcome to Total Health & Thermal Imaging

Total Health & Thermal Imaging is located in the beautiful town of Malanda on the Atherton Tablelands, in Far North Queensland.
Our opening hours are Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm & Sat 9am - Noon.

Doctors have used temperature as an indicator of disease for centuries. Thermal Imaging is an advanced technology that creates a visual “map” of the heat patterns of the breast. Because cancer alters the breast temperature and blood supply, it produces signs, which appear clearly on a thermal image. Once identified, treatment may occur sooner when a problem is more easily managed. Our thermal imaging system scans the breasts using an ultra-sensitive thermal camera that produces no radiation or breast compression. These images are analysed by our experienced doctor using advanced computer technology to determine if the breasts appear to be at risk for disease.

About Dr Deidre Brophy

Dr Natural Medicine Phd Sce

Dr Deidre Brophy’s passion for the health industry began as a child. She always wanted to be the next Florence Nightingale.

Her first training into natural medicine came twenty-five years ago, while she was waiting four months for an operation after a knee injury. She started studying the 12 cell salts of the body as she wanted to know how each cell salt worked for different illnesses and she became fascinated by this type of natural treatment.

At the age of eighteen, she discovered she was experiencing many side effects to the birth control pill. Her body was rejecting the chemicals in the pill severely. For over six months she battled these effects - her hair falling out, and the difficulty she was experiencing in even swallowing the pill itself. Doctors wouldn’t believe her, not being trained in the side effects of medication as they believe this is the pharmacist’s job. In her twenties, a drug she was prescribed for severe period pain was causing hallucinations - to the extant that she recalls instructing her then-three year old daughter to pick some poison beans from the garden for dinner. After Deidre realized what had happened, she flushed the medication down the toilet and was astounded the doctors had prescribed this for her, without looking into the side effects.

What is Thermal Imaging

I’m sure you’ve seen thermal image cameras in spy and thriller films – our hero looks through his infra-red goggles and sees the bad guys, the heat from their bodies showing up in blues and greens and reds against the night. But did you know thermal imaging is also used as a diagnostic tool? In particular, it is an extremely accurate early detection tool for breast cancers and other cancers.

In direct contrast to mammograms, thermal imaging is non-invasive, non-contact, and uses no radiation at all.
In normal conditions, the human body is able to keep its internal temperature constant, no matter what the external conditions. The heat produced is primarily dispersed to the environment through the skin. The skin, like any body with a temperature over absolute zero, radiates electromagnetic energy in the surrounding environment at an intensity which is highest in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.

An infrared scanning device is used to convert infrared radiation emitted from the skin surface into electrical impulses that are visualised in colour on a monitor.

Mammograms use radiation – thermal imaging does not. Mammogram testing compresses sensitive breast tissue causing pain and possible tissue damage.

Thermography is a physiologic test which demonstrates thermal patterns in skin temperature that may be normal or may indicate pain, injury, disease or other abnormality. If abnormal heat patterns are identified relating to a specific region of interest or function, clinical correlation and further investigation may be necessary to assist your health care provider in diagnosis and treatment.

Thermographic exams can be performed on anyone and in any condition, including pregnant women, children of any age, or even if you have a pacemaker. There is no radiation or electrical interference. Thermal Imaging can also be helpful in defining other problems such as acute injuries, chronic pain, certain types of heart and circulatory problems, and nerve problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, RSD, peripheral neuropathy, sciatica, and more.

Mammograms use ionized radiation - a carcinogenic agent that causes damage to the body. Mammograms can detect lumps of various types but have a difficult time distinguishing between solid tumours as would be found in a malignancy, and fluid filled tumours as would be found in the case of fibre-adenoma cyst.

With infrared thermography all possible epidemiological limitations, precautions or restrictions disappear. Thanks to the passive diagnosis method and absence of any patient-doctor contact, a thermographic exam cannot negatively affect the patient’s health in any way, not even theoretically. Thus, infrared thermography opens new prospects for its use in diagnostic screening.

In the absence of other positive tests, an abnormal picture obtained with a thermal imager gives a woman early warning and the need for intervention, or change in lifestyle, diet, or other breast health factors. With close monitoring and serial thermal imaging, a woman can monitor breast health and has a much better chance of detecting cancer at its earliest stage and preventing invasive tumour growth.

Thermography can detect abnormalities before the onset of a malignancy, and as early as ten years before being recognized by other procedures such as manual breast exam, mammography, ultrasound or MRI.

Although widely embraced by alternative health care practitioners, thermography’s obscurity in the mainstream means that too many women rely on mammograms as their only option. There are several reasons for thermography’s lack of support by the conventional medical community. Early thermal scanners were not very sensitive, nor were they well-tested before being used in clinical practice. This resulted in many misdiagnosed cases and its utter dismissal by the medical community. Since then the technology has advanced dramatically and thermography now uses highly sensitive state-of-the-art infrared cameras and sophisticated computers.

In 1982, the (USA) FDA approved thermography for breast cancer screening, yet most of the medical establishment is either unaware of it or still associates it with its early false start. Since most women are also uninformed of the technology there is no pressure on the medical community to support it. Unfortunately, its use in Australia is also not very well-known.

Because 1 in 3 women will get breast cancer, we must use every means possible to detect cancers when there is the greatest chance for survival. The addition of thermal imaging to the frontline of early breast cancer detection brings a great deal of good news for women.

Directions for Thermo gram patients.
Two hours before TEST NO hot meal or drink
No oils, perfumes, moisturisers or deodorants.
You do need to be aware that we are looking for temperature variants in the body, both internal and external, so please do not take anything like asprin, panadol etc. that will alter your temperature, as you will get a false read on your scan.

  • How to recognise Breast Cancer

It is important for a woman to have regular imaging studies and perform self-palpation.

When palpating, it is necessary to know the difference between a cyst and a cancerous growth. A cyst is often tender, moves freely and feels like an eyeball behind the eyelid. By contrast, a cancerous growth is usually non-tender and feels attached to deeper tissue.

Self-examination is imprecise and women can miss smaller masses. Thus, self-palpation must be supplemented by imaging studies.

Mammography and ultrasound can provide information to clarify small findings that cannot be felt through palpation. Thermal imaging can often reveal suspicious changes in the physiological activity of the breast years before other examination.

    Ten Ways to Beat Cancer

Here is a list of simple things people can start doing today to take action towards reducing their cancer risk.
    1. Thermal Imaging, Vertebra alignment and lymphatic massage.
    2. Eat lots of colourful vegetables and fruits.
    3. Reduce intake of refined carbohydrates and no sugars.
    4. Drink green tea instead of coffee.
    5. Eat more fish and organic chicken, no red meat and pork.
    6. Eat garlic and fermented soy products only.
    7. Take a plant derived mineral supplement daily.
    8. Boost exercise level but also take time to relax.
    9. Eat organically grown fruit and vegetables and keep toxic chemicals out of your home and garden.
    10. P.H. should stay around 7.0

    Is Your Water Killing You?

Why would anyone ask such a silly question? But is it really that silly?
    1. Rain water is often acidic and devoid of minerals. That makes it very aggressive and corrosive.
    2. Such corrosive water will attack substances it comes in contact with (‘dissolve’ them) and especially so metals (zinc, iron etc).
    3. We know today that ionic ‘transition’ metals from zinc, copper, iron, lead, mercury and so on are increasing the production of free radicals a million fold.
    4. Free radicals are considered the root cause of all chronic diseases and aging.
    5. Furthermore such corrosive and aggressive rain water can leach the minerals out of your body. The body needs these minerals from magnesium to calcium, bicarbonate of soda, sodium and chlorine (when salt is ‘split up’) and others to function properly!
    6. Rainwater contains none of these ‘essential’ minerals, but potentially loads of heavy metals! Hence on the one hand the body is deficient in substances which would help to protect it from ‘environmental pollutants’ (ionic metals are amongst the most ‘deadly’ environmental pollutants) and on the other it cannot operate effectively because of the lack of these minerals.
