Rachael Haley @ Peakhurst Chinese Medicine
Hi, my name is Rachael, and I’m a qualified Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine Herbalist.
In modern times, we are increasingly encouraged to seek a quick fix to our medical and health problems through drugs, surgery, and the like. Whilst these approaches undoubtedly have their advantages, sometimes they don't always address the body as a whole; or they are just that, a quick fix.
If, like myself, you are concerned about this modern trend or if you feel that your health problems are not being addressed in a holistic way, I may be able to offer you something more.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) utilises theories and techniques developed over thousands of years in ancient Chinese culture to become a system of primary health care that is being used by people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds to effectively treat a wide range of chronic and acute health problems. TCM takes a holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment.
Treatment courses will vary depending on the severity of your condition and whether it is an acute or chronic disorder. Obviously the longer something has been in disharmony the longer it takes to unravel and heal. However my emphasis on treatment is that you walk out of the clinic feeling better than when you walked in.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture uses very fine sterile acupuncture needles that are inserted into specifically selected acupuncture points on the body. These points are located on meridians (energy pathways) that are interconnected throughout the body. The aim of acupuncture is to balance and restore the energy (Qi) within these pathways which, in turn, has an overall effect on the body. The acupuncture points may also be stimulated with cupping, moxibustion, electro-simulation or massage.
Acupuncture, as a natural form of healing, provides drug-free pain relief, effectively treats a wide range of disease and illness and associated symptoms, looks at the individual’s health holistically linking both the physical and emotional aspects and assists with prevention of illness and promotes general well being.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal medicine is the other component of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It uses herbs (mostly plant origin) that are combined into a herbal formula, which collectively are tailored to the individual’s condition. At the clinic I prescribe granule herbs (in which you dissolve in boiling water) rather than raw herbs which makes taking them more efficient and less time consuming.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture &/ Chinese Herbal medicine) is known to treat a variety disorders including those affecting the nervous system, digestive, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, respiratory, urogenital, psychological, gynaecological/obstetric, skin conditions and paediatric care.
