Zen Thai Shiatsu

is essentially the integration of Zen Shiatsu and Traditional Thai Massage. Yoga therapy and Osteopathic joint mobilisation techniques are also combined to create a holistic bodywork that encourages healing to occur.

Gwyn Williams, founder of Zenthai Shiatsu says "Mindful touch offers an experience like no other. Within it are the seeds for deep transformation and awakening...this is healing. Memories and traumas stored within the body are able to be accessed to allow the return of freedom to our energetic and structural bodies."

Benefits of Zen Thai Shiatsu include:
  • shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder
  • back & neck pain
  • lower back pain
  • joint pain
  • headaches/migraines
  • sciatica
  • sports injuries
  • digestive disorders
  • insomnia
  • circulation problems
  • work related stress
  • excessive fatigue
  • low immunity
  • emotional distress
  • depression

Zen Shiatsu (literally meaning 'finger pressure') is based around the Chinese Meridian System, an in-depth healing art of how we can utilise Ki (life force) to keep our bodies and minds in a state of equilibrium.

Traditional Thai Massage (sometimes referred to as Passive Yoga), involves stretching and aligning the energetic and structural body and draws it's roots from India and the most ancient healing practice of Ayurveda

Pain, low energy and that feeling of just being out of sorts can be attributed to blocked Ki (energy/ blood flow) that may have resulted from physical or emotional trauma or postural imbalance. Zen Thai Shiatsu is an effective therapy that can assist you to regain balance, vitality & good health. As your practitioner, my role is to instigate or help guide this process. Together we can assess your current situation and follow a treatment plan that will assist you to return to a state of harmony and balance. This is your healing journey, my role is to assist your body's own natural healing process.

You may ask, "Is this the best therapy for me?" Read on.......

Pain is often accompanied by weakness and restricted range of movement (ROM). Zen Thai Shiatsu addresses all of these symptoms without provoking the body's defense (protective) system so that deep acting therapeutic release/healing may occur. Experience greater ease of movement throughout your whole body; a reduction of pain and stiffness.

The therapeutic techniques used will address the areas in which you feel pain or tension. Experience an improvement in your ROM. Joint mobilisation techniques will enhance an ease of movement and blood and energy flow throughout your joint complexes.

Experience a greater sense of calm and clarity of mind as your central nervous system surrenders. As pain and tension is reduced a calmer demeanor is noticed and a more positive outlook is possible.

Notice a return to joyful living.

You will experience many benefits in your first treatment: an ease in muscle pain or tension and a general sense of well being as your central nervous system has been invited to relax.

Whether your work requires you to spend much of your time at a desk, or it is physically demanding, you will notice muscle tension being released, energy flow improved and your body's natural quest for balance addressed with a Zen Thai Shiatsu treatment .... your body and mind will thank you.

If you enjoy cycling, swimming, yoga, running, football, tennis, golf, acrobatics or any physical activities .... allow Zen Thai Shiatsu to prevent or aid your recovery from injuries, or to simply treat those hard working muscles and avoid the possibility of accumulating tightness. Notice the benefits of deep acting bodywork when you are passive...... surrender and feel the tension release, the energy flow improve ... revitalise.

If you are experiencing stress or emotional trauma, or simply feeling overwhelmed with your current life situation ..... feel supported and nurtured with Zen Thai Shiatsu as you address any current or stuck issues. Allow yourself to surrender, to release that which no longer serves you..... a return to peace. Allow love and joy to flow to yourself and others.

Through mindful sensitivity I create a safe haven in which you can experience nourishment, support and acceptance.

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment time. Take a moment for a few deep breaths, connect with yourSelf.

If you discover that your scheduled appointment time has become unsuitable, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule your appointment. This will ensure that we can all utilise our time effectively.

What to expect at your Zen Thai Shiatsu treatment:
Zen Thai Shiatsu takes place fully clothed on a mat on the floor. Please wear light, comfortable clothes that allow for unrestricted movement (tracksuit or training pants and a t-shirt are ideal).
A verbal consultation plus pulse, hara (abdominal) and tongue diagnosis is used to ascertain the most appropriate treatment.

During the treatment I may use my hands, thumbs, elbows, knees or feet. Your body position will be moved throughout the treatment (supine, prone, side or seated) depending on the techniques chosen to address your condition.

Cupping may be used during a treatment to assist in clearing blood and Ki stagnation. A vacuum is created inside a glass cup which is then applied to the body. Skin and a superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. This assists in balancing and realigning the flow of Ki. Cupping increases blood flow to the area being cupped, relaxes muscles and eases pain.

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese Medicine technique involving the burning of the herb mugwort on or close to the skin to facilitate healing. It warms the meridians encouraging a smoother flow of blood and Ki. It is used to expel cold and damp from the body. Moxibustion provides a deeply penetrating heat that stimulates lymphocytes to the area where it is used making it a useful tool in dealing with pain and inflammation.
If you are experiencing fatigue and low energy moxibustion is an excellent therapy.
Moxibustion strengthens the body and enhances the effect of the overall Zen Thai Shiatsu treatment.

Zenthai Shiatsu treatments are usually accompanied by music that encourages deep relaxation conducive to assisting the body to return to it’s natural state of balance. Please advise me if you have another preference.

The aim of Zen Thai Shiatsu is to :

Testimonials

Bodywork Testimonials:

"I have been seeing Monique for about four years and I always enjoy receiving a massage from her, so I am very pleased to be writing a testimonial about her treatments.
It is important for me to feel safe and secure before I allow anyone to touch my body, and with Monique I feel that I am in safe hands. Depending on how I feel on the day I choose either the Heartworks Lomi Lomi or the Zen Thai Shiatsu. The Heartworks Lomi Lomi massage allows me to slow down and to let go whilst in a caring environment. The Zen Thai Shiatsu massage opens up all the stagnant areas in my body, for example my hips and spine. Thank you Monique for your gentle soul and your professional techniques. You have helped me heal."

"Monique de Goey’s treatments have benefited me greatly as a physical performer. As regularly as possible I visit her for maintenance but on a number of occasions Monique has come to my aid without appointment.
On one such occasion I had injured myself mid season of 'Briefs' and was in no fit state to perform aerials that evening. With little time Monique treated me on a dusty floor and I performed that evening.
More recently I injured my neck mid season of Polytoxic’s shows and, once again, Monique came to my aid. Not only with Monique’s treatments was I able to finish all the shows I have also gained greater mobility in my neck than I have had in a very long time.
Monique has a wholistic approach to healing that inspires trust, she gets results and more importantly for me, she genuinely cares. I highly recommend Monique de Goey to anyone. "

"I was experiencing a phase of extreme fatigue and weakness due to a
long-term fatigue problem when I first saw Monique. Her treatment,
and subsequent treatments, gave me an enhanced feeling of strength
and well-being. I was also having great difficulty walking due to a
bad knee at the time of my first treatment. Afterwards, I was very
surprised to be able to walk confidently again."

Denise

“I have been dealing with an injury I sustained approximately ten years ago snowboarding, which resulted in my left side first rib popping out of place. When I had it realigned by a specialist, the subsequent trauma to the muscles around the first rib area resulted in years of discomfort and weakness. I could not lift as much weight in the gym on my left side and I suffered pins and needle sensations regularly and struggled to sleep in certain positions with my arm.

Having tried various methods of physiotherapy and massage to relieve the issues, I finally come to see Monique. Today, for the first time I no longer experience pins and needles, I sleep without any issues, and in the gym, my left side Is significantly stronger and more consistent than it has been in the last ten years.

Monique takes a genuine interest in the problem and it’s symptoms and spends time analysing where the issue is originating from to get to the root cause for treatment.

After 2 months of regular sessions, I can thoroughly recommend her approach as one, which goes above and beyond that which I have experienced with a massage therapist in the past. Her knowledge of the body and how it operates is exceptional and I have learnt a lot during my short experience under Monique’s care.”

Michael Finch

"I am a physical theatre, circus and street performer and I have had Monique work on and with my body over the past 5 years.
Monique in that time has been priceless - as she herself understands the demands of our industry not just on a physical but also an emotional and psychological level.
Monique's ongoing commitment and passion for information, study and treatment has meant she is constantly growing and equipping herself and her clients with more knowledge, care and information.

I appreciate being able to be treated by Monique who relieves my pain, recommends stretches, diet and ongoing care to prevent and nurture.

We call the Zen Thai Shiatsu massage a massage for movers – our bodies relax and respond so well to it."
