Never done yoga and someone suggested it might help you to manage stress, improve your sense of wellbeing or help to improve your fitness? Or all three?
Yoga means to unite or make one. Yoga promotes physical ,emotional and mental wellbeing. It is the harmonious integration of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of an individual.
The aim of this class is to support you in living with health and peace of mind. It offers you an opportunity to foster and deepen connection with yourself. You are encouraged to start where you are and work with the body you have today. If you are stressed out, there is the opportunity to learn to relax. If your body needs toning, yoga asana (yoga poses) will provide strength without stressing your joints. If you are feeling stiff, you will enjoy the gentle stretching experienced through your asana practise.
Breath work (pranayama) and meditation will help to calm the body and quiet the mind, fostering balance, peace and calm. When focusing on the present moment it becomes easier to view situations with greater equanimity.

This half-day yoga workshop is an introduction to yoga for those people who are over 40 and considering beginning, or have recently begun, the practise of yoga. This is an opportunity to explore some simple yoga techniques or delve a little more deeply into your current practise.
With focussed awareness and compassion we will explore some basic asanas (yoga poses) to gently align, stretch and strengthen the body. Open and release any held tensions, explore newfound expansiveness. Feel your body. Bolsters, blocks or other support will be offered for those with who require it.
In gratitude we will sit with the breath – pranayama. Allow your attention with the breath to assist you to let go of the past and the future, to simply be in the present moment. Connect deeply with yourself.
Through guided meditation and relaxation you will be invited to allow your body to soften, to release and relax. This may assist you to experience calm and spaciousness in the mind, the nervous system to relax and to experience a sense of inner peace.

Moving Kids - Yoga and Play
Yoga and Play classes aim to be engaging and fun. They aim to promote a state of well-being on all levels – body, mind and spirit. Body awareness, creativity, self expression and imagination is cultivated via the playful experience of these classes. Hoops, balance bags, rope and ball play, skipping and rhythms will also be explored. It is my aim that children will feel comfortable with who they are, within their bodies, how they move and that they learn to channel their impulses in a positive way.
moving kids
Yoga and Play classes support the qualities of peace, truth, respect for self and others, thoughtfulness and the sense of unity that I believe is inherent in all children.

About Monique:
I have many years experience in Community Arts work including working with children. Most recently I spent 18 months offering creative movement, circus skills, rhythm making and yoga at Campus Kindy, UQ. Until 2008 you may have seen me on stilts at events such as Woodford Folk Festival, the EKKA, Coolum Kite Festival and many more. I can occasionally be found running arts based workshops in the community eg Mask Making at the Into Africa Festival.
I participated in Yoga Teacher Training with Kate Pell (the Yoga Den) and Level 1 Kids Yoga with Natalie Morris (Calm Kids Yoga). I am an experienced holistic bodyworker specialising in Zen Thai Shiatsu and Heartworks Lomi Lomi. You can find more information regarding my bodywork practise, Reconnect holistic bodywork, on this page.
My work with children is underpinned by a wish for children to be comfortable in their own skin, to have an ease in movement, to trust their own inner knowing - their intuition, and to understand the mind/body connection. My intention is to share a love of being, moving and interacting in a fun way, supporting each child as he/she is, while encouraging them to explore beyond their current abilities. Children will learn about asanas (yoga postures), pranayama (breath awareness), meditation (stilling the mind and the body), relaxation (feeling calm). Thus they will discover ways in which to keep their bodies strong and supple and learn techniques to deal with day to day stresses.
I have a current Blue Card.
