Sports Massage

Are you a sports enthusiast and do you engage in regular training?

Any form of training is a “stress” that is placed on your body. Your body responds to this “stress” by adapting to it…i.e., it learns to cope with that stress by improving. This is called a training effect – or adaptation. Your training effect actually happens when you are resting, not training! So it makes sense that you should prioritise your rest/recovery as much as you do your training!

Sports Massage is one of the most effective recovery techniques you can adopt to ensure that you can perform at the highest level and help prevent injury. Whether you compete in an individual sport, team sport, participate in regular fitness classes or workout in the weights room, Sports Massage can be of benefit to you.

Sports massage helps to reduce pain from sore muscles; increase range of motion (ROM); reduce or eliminate soft tissue inflammation; assist with relaxation; improve contractile and non-contractile tissue repair and facilitate free movement. Underlying Sports Massage are the disciplines of biomechnics, exercise physiology and functional anatomy to understand your sport’s demands and apply soft tissue techniques optimally.

High Performance Unit

Recovery Works HPU is designed to assist athletes reach their potential through a considered, supportive approach to training. The team at RWHPU will assist you in the design of functional strength, speed and agility programs that compliment your current training workload, and provide you the skills to be your very best.

Regardless of where you are right now in your sporting career, there are some fundamental training principles that are crucial to getting the most out of the efforts you put into your training sessions.

As an athlete, you bring your unique physiological and psychological attributes to your sport, hoping for success. These attributes form the basis of strategies which you need to utilise to achieve a desired level of performance. Some components which form these strategies are factors such as body mass, height, muscle fibre type as well as genetic inheritance.

These factors, combined with skill acquisition and training, as well as how you integrate them may influence the degree of your success on the field.

Sports performance factors are complex, consisting of:
Power; Strength; Speed; Agility; Coordination; Quickness; Flexibility; Local muscular endurance; Cardiovascular capacity; Endurance

Maximising your athletic potential requires exposure to significant training loads. Combining the sports performance factors listed above with technical skills and tactical awareness training becomes incredibly complex and meticulous planning is crucial for you to avoid overtraining, poor recovery, detraining and, even worse, injury.

Getting it right the first time is critical, not only for on field success, but also for your health and well-being.

Valter di Salvo, director at Real Madrid Performance Centre notes ‘look after your assets….studies reveal there is a 4% chance of injury in every 1000 minutes of training….to determine the risk a player is facing we look at how many minutes he’s played, how much he’s trained and how much he’s run’ (Leaders in Performance Conference, 2009).

You are an asset not only to your club or sport, but to yourself.
