SERVICES Rinaldo has over 7 years experience as a Chiropractor, whose interests and expertise lie in the fields of Spinal and Sports Injury Rehabilitation, Postural Correction and Core Instability, and the treatment and rehabilitation of common Musculoskeletal Pain Syndromes.
These include:- Work related Injuries and RSI
- Headache and Jaw Pain
- Neck/Shoulder Pain
- Low Back/Hip Pain
- Joint and Muscle Sprain/Strain
Rinaldo's philosophy to diagnosis and treatment encompasses both soft tissue and joint procedures, as well as functional stability training/rehabilitation.
His continuing education and professional development involves regular seminars and workshops in the field of Neuromusculoskeletal Rehabilitation, with a particular interest in the Prague School approach. Rinaldo is Workcover approved and works within a multidisciplinary setting with other practitioners, including a Dietition and Exercise Physiologist.
Member of the Chiropractic and Osteopathic College of Australasia (COCA).
What are you looking for?...The Barrier Concept
Joints as well as the soft tissues (muscles, skin, connective tissue) that crosses them, must all have free unrestricted movement for the body to function properly. Any restriction or "barrier" to normal joint and soft tissue movement is a potential area of treatment and represents increased tension and pain. This can apply to a dysfunctional joint in the neck causing a headache or it can be tight connective tissue around the knee-causing knee pain, for example.
Historically, Chiropractors and Osteopaths believed that all health problems were the result of spinal "subluxation" or "osteopathic lesion" interfering with the flow of "energy" from the brain to internal organs. The modern corollary to this, is that any mechanical dysfunction in the spine or extremities for that matter, causes a reaction and adaptation in the nervous system, which will cause muscle imbalances and ultimately...pain and injury!
Techniques/Modalities of Treatment
Soft Tissue Manipulation and Deep Tissue Massage: Includes manual resistance techniques or "contract-relax" procedures to reduce muscle tension and pain, lengthen tight tissue and increase joint mobility. Deep tissue massage reduces/breaks down scar tissue and improves circulation, enhancing recovery.
Dry Needling: used to deactivate Trigger Points within muscles.
Joint Mobilisation and Manipulation: Joint restrictions ("Chiropractic subluxation" or Osteopathic lesion") are mechanical blockages that lead to pain and muscle imbalances. Gentle joint mobilisation and/or manipulation (Chiropractic Adjustment) is the only way to remove such restrictions and is part of the rehabilitation process.
Functional Stability Training/Rehabilitation: Apart from direct trauma, tissue injury is a result of repetitive endrange loading. A stable joint is achieved when the muscles around it contract to maintain a "neutral" position, protecting the connective tissue and ligaments and allowing effective load transfer. Poor motor (brain) control of muscles leads to functional joint instability and is one of the main reasons for chronic pain and disability. The aim is to re-educate/re-train muscle control (the "weak link") so other elements can be built upon, such as balance, strength and endurance.
