SERVICES

Welcome to Robert Hewitt - Gestalt Psychotherapist and Teacher

I trained in England as a Gestalt therapist and am a Clinical Member of both PACFA - Psychotherapy and Counseling Federation of Australia and GANZ - Gestalt Therapists of Australia and New Zealand. As well as working with clients in my private practice, I supervise other therapists, facilitate 'Circles', and as Director of the School of Transformational Therapy I help others to learn the art of therapy.

What my Clients Say.......

“I love working with Robert. He meets me, is there for me, not to make me feel good, but to support me in whatever way is appropriate to work though what presents in each moment. In a surprisingly short amount of time, assisted me in discovering a deeper, truer self that can surrender to love. For this I am very grateful.”
Jane Caulfield, Journey Therapist & Counsellor, Founder & Facilitator of Mindful Eating, Melbourne

Robert goes beyond his training, and adds an element that is unique to the counseling process. I cannot name that process for it has no name, but I can say that it is pure, untouched and authentically in the present moment. There have been moments in our sessions where I have been pleasantly surprised or even shocked as to how he could have picked up on my unconscious processes. He has a ‘no bullshit’ way of opening up and exposing thoughts and feelings in a very safe and supported environment.
N... I am a therapist, and a probationary Psychologist

When I first met Robert I was in quite a state of stress and anxiety. With Roberts' empathy, guidance, support and experience I felt comfortable in discussing my fears. I was able to step back from them, identify them for what they were - and deal with them. I am so glad that a friend of mine recommended Robert to me.
C….

Robert gently and curiously explores my 'way of being' with a foundation of inner strength, groundedness, presence, patience, more patience, warmth, creativity, humour and honesty. I have grown as a man in the company of his guidance, acceptance and openness.
D.C Savona; student of Gestalt Therapy & life.

I see clients in Carlton - days, evenings and some weekends - fees $90 per hr.

Circling - The Magic of Deeply Relating

“When our awareness is rooted in the present we access our higher emotional potential … we experience greater oneness with a vast field of awareness that far transcends our limited personal realities. We begin to touch the Source, to drink from a fountain of aliveness and intelligence in which we perceive each moment’s innate wholeness and to which our natural response is a sense of gratitude, wonderment and implicit trust in life’s goodness. The Circle is a ‘conscious holding environment’ within which the one being ‘circled’ can experience being seen. To create such an environment requires of us what Richard Moss calls ‘sacred attention’.

What People Say About Circling ...

"It was an awesome, inspiring, intense, wonderfully heart connected afternoon!!! I feel much love for you and everyone in the circle...gratefully yours."

"I just wanted to say that for me Circling was the equivalent of a gorgeous facial for the soul."

It is an amazing space to be with and express what is. I felt very 'held' and supported during my turn. It was wonderful to hear everyone's questions and reflections. It really highlighted the power of attuning to people through getting in touch with your own body and emotions and staying in the moment.”

"Wow – what a gift you have given me – Circling – I am feeling more alive, happy, open and authentic these days – more than ever before. Wow – extremely confronting and magical at the same time – I’m using fear as my compass."

Circles are held on a Saturday or Sunday afternoons and some evenings in Carlton - the adventure lasts for four hours and costs $50/30 concession. For more information call or email or 'Friend' me on Facebook - Robert 'Ged' Hewitt.

Certificate In Transformational Psychotherapy

The one year Certificate course in Transformational Psychotherapy is an Integrative therapy that combines the philosophies and tenets of three major schools of therapy as well as aspects of many others.

The three main influences on our Integrative orientation are:
  • The Client-Centred approach developed by Carl Rogers
  • Gestalt therapy originated by Fritz and Laura Perls with Paul Goodman and Ralph Hefferline
  • Dialogic psychotherapy inspired by Martin Buber and systematised by Maurice Friedman, William Heard and Richard Hycner.

The three complementary psychotherapies that comprise the course provide for a coherent framework that guides both understanding and relating.

Methodology

The predominant teaching modality is the ‘Circle’. This method was pioneered by Carl Rogers in the late fifties and has been re-discovered by Guy Sengstock in the USA and developed by him and others over the last fourteen years.

Transformational Therapy Course – Details

• The course leads to a Certificate accredited by the International Institute for Complementary Therapies.
• To complete the course the student is required to attend 136 hours of training generally held on Saturdays and Sundays and to submit a 3000 word essay on their personal and profession development during the course. Attendance at ‘open’ and ‘introductory’ circles count towards total hours.
• Once accepted onto the course students receive regular extracts from relevant books and articles to help expand their theoretical understanding of the human condition and the therapy process.
• Students can move at there own pace and do not have to complete the course over a set period of time.
• Fees are charged per session - $80/$50 concession for 4hr afternoons, $120/80 for full days.
• The only entry requirement is to have experience at least one session of circling, to have a good sense of what’s involved and to have talked it through with Robert to their mutual satisfaction.
• The course is now open to new students - call me if you want to join in.
