What does a naturopath and nutritionist do?
A naturopath and nutritionist provide information, guidance and support to assist individuals in making nutritional choices that optimise their health and wellbeing. Sandy believes that good nutrition is fundamental in the prevention and treatment of disease.
Designing an optimal nutritional strategy for an individual at a particular point in time requires a high level of technical knowledge and consideration of many factors. Supporting and encouraging a person to follow this optimal nutritional strategy requires an understanding of human behaviour, accepting their differences. Sandy approaches dietary change with simple and practical advice.
Sandy will also frequently use herbal medicine as part of her patient treatment programme.
Sandy encourages working with your current medical practitioners and other health care professionals, in order that you, the patient, receive the most appropriate healthcare.
What to expect from a Naturopathic consultation:
Initial consultation of 1.25 hours is generally required to take a thorough case history. Sandy takes an holistic approach and consideration is given not only to your current set of symptoms but your overall health and vitality. Referral to a medical practitioner for further investigation is required in some instances.
Initial consultation is $150 for initial consultation. Follow-up consultations are generally around 30 minutes at a cost of $80. All prescribed medicines are at an additional cost.
Consultations may be claimed on most private healthcare funds.
Depending on the condition and the individual, Sandy will draw on her experience in Nutrition and Herbal Medicine. She believes that good eating habits are the foundation of health. Therefore dietary intervention is always a key component of her therapeutic approach.
Sandy can help you with:
"Nature has provided us with a banquet of food and medicine. A wholefood plant based diet is the basis of a healthy diet. Herbal medicine is the most ancient form of medicine and is practiced in every country in the world. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that more than 75% of the world’s population, still use herbal medicine for illness. Medicinal plants very often have comprehensive complex active principles. The individual components interact with each other so that only the complex as a whole will produce a synergistic action.”
