About me
I was ten when I started giving my mum massages, and this was when my passion for bodywork awoke. In 2000, I began studying Osteopathy at Victoria University, and after completing my Bachelor degree, I started working as a Remedial Massage Therapist. I completed my Masters in Health Science (Osteopathy) in 2006.
I have worked in many different environments, including spas and the corporate sector, but prefer the relaxed setting of a clinic. I practice Relaxation (Swedish) massage, Remedial (Deep Tissue) Massage and Pregnancy Massage as well as Osteopathy, and have a particular interest in helping people who suffer from chronic back and neck pain or headaches.
As I currently work part-time as a hospital Ward Clerk I am only available for Massage and Osteopathy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy, which works holistically to harness the body's ability to heal itself by recognising the interrelationship between the body's structure and function. Osteopathy can treat the whole body, from joints and muscles to internal organs, by using a range of techniques including gentle joint mobilisation, direct joint manipulation, soft tissue massage and stretching.
What is massage?
Massage uses the long, calming strokes of effleurage, the kneading and rolling strokes of petrissage and also specific trigger point therapy to relieve tight and sore muscle, increase range of motion, improve circulation and lymphatic drainage and aid in relaxation.
What should I book in for?
Both Osteopathy and Massage can be used to treat acute and chronic conditions such as headaches, migraines, strains and sprains, as well as other musculoskeletal conditions and can be performed throughout pregnancy.
With the exception of joint manipulation (cracking), which can only be performed during an osteopathic treatment, Osteopathy and remedial massage use largely the same techniques.
Most osteopathic treatments are direct in their approach, and patients will see improvements for specific conditions faster than they would with massage. However, massage will offer a greater sense of relaxation and well-being immediately after a treatment.
If you don't have a specific problem, but would like help with stress relief and generalised muscle tightness, a massage is ideal, however, if you have more complex and chronic concerns, an osteopathic treatment would be recommended.
If you are not sure which type of treatment you should have, book in for a massage and we can discuss what treatment regimen would suit you best.
