Massage & Yoga
SERVICES Welcome to Shambhala Health & Healing !!
In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition Shambhala is referred to as “ a mystical kingdom hidden somewhere beyond the snow peaks of the Himalayas”. In Sanskrit, it means “a place of peace, tranquility and happiness”, which is what we hope you feel from our Venus Bay Shambhala!! To us, the name also reflects our passion for the Tibetan, Nepalese and Indian kingdoms surrounding the Himalayas.
At Shambhala Health & Healing, we offer the following massage therapies and yoga classes:
Massage Therapies
~ Massage is more than just a luxury.
It’s a wonderful way to put your mind and body back in harmony ~
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation Massage is excellent for reducing stress and anxiety, relieving general muscle soreness, and improving vitality and well-being. The firm but soothing strokes of this massage are a wonderful way to calm nerves, improve circulation, and regain a sense of balance in your body and mind.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage is a more specific style of massage aimed at treating particular problems such as neck pain, headaches, back pain, shoulder problems etc. It involves an initial assessment of the presenting problem, followed by the appropriate massage treatment. The aims of Remedial massage are to reduce your pain, and improve your flexibility and joint range of motion. You may also be given some stretches, exercises or self massage techniques to do at home.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a combination of the flowing techniques of relaxation massage with the deeper pressure of remedial massage. It is excellent for targeting specific problem areas but at the same time, getting the relaxation massage benefits. A great preventative maintenance massage.

Yoga Classes
Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India thousands of years ago. The word “yoga” means “union” - union of the body with the mind, and union of the mind with the soul. It is a means of balancing and harmonising all aspects of the self: the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. This is achieved through the physical practice of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) and dhyana (meditation). Yoga helps us to learn to live more fully in the present moment. Shambhala offers the following types of yoga classes:
Hatha Yoga (1.5 hr)
The Hatha class commences with some relaxation postures, breathing techniques or meditation. This is followed by almost an hour of physical postures working on strength and flexibility. The class finishes with laying in Savasana (the corpse pose). It is a slower and more gentle form of yoga.
Ashtanga Flow Yoga (1.5 hr)
This class follows a set routine each week based on Ashtanga Yoga. It is a more flowing style of yoga, with the aim of gradually learning the routine so students can perform yoga at their own pace according to their breath. It is more physically challenging than the Hatha class and suited to those who have done yoga before, or those who participate in physical activity on a regular basis.

A little about Carolyn……
I am a fully qualified Remedial and Relaxation Massage Therapist and a registered Yoga teacher.
I have been working as a Massage Therapist since 1995, having achieved my qualifications at the Eastern School of Tactile Therapies, (now known as ESTT College of Natural Medicine). I spent the first nine years in Melbourne, gaining considerable experience working in massage clinics, healing centres, health spas and private practice. I then relocated to Venus Bay and established my permanent practice here at Shambhala in November 2003. I am passionate about massage and how much it can help both as a preventative tool and in fixing existing problems. I have treated hundreds of clients with massage and have achieved rewarding results. I believe massage is an excellent tool to promote health and well-being.
With regards to Yoga, I have been practising for many years having attended classes in various disciplines including Hatha, Gita, Ashtanga and some Iyengar yoga. I completed my yoga teacher training at the Yoga Arts school in Byron Bay in 2004 and teach both Hatha style and Ashtanga style yoga classes. I am very passionate about yoga and appreciate the journey it has taken me on so far. For me, the wonderful thing about yoga is knowing that this journey will continue for the rest of my life……. Om shanti, Carolyn.
