About Skye With more than 10 years' corporate experience in Australia, London, Japan, Canada and the US, principal instructor Skye Baird brings her passion for wellness and healing back to her hometown of Sydney.
Skye completed her Yoga Alliance Accreditation in Santa Monica, California and has trained in the latest Hatha yoga techniques.
She has studied more than 60 asanas (postures), along with meditation, philosophy, anatomy and sequencing designed to promote flexibility and vitality.
Throughout her training Skye engaged in a variety of yoga styles including Forrest, Iyengar, Bikram, Kundalini, Astanga and restorative yoga. She has worked with some of LA's best known yoga instructors including Matthew Reyes (YogaHop), Kathryn Budig (Yoga Works), Bryan Kest (Power Yoga) and Peter Sterios (Truyoga).
Skye's passion for teaching yoga inspired her to leave her corporate career in 2008 to focus on a more holistic lifestyle and cater to the desires of others striving for the ultimate life/work balance.
Her previous roles include Business Events Manager for Tourism Australia's LA office, Business Development Manager at the prestigious InterContinental Sydney hotel and Wedding Sales Manager on Hayman, on the Great Barrier Reef.
She is fluent in Japanese language skills including reading, writing and speaking.
Skye's extensive experience in the business tourism sector places her in a unique position to cater to the objectives of any incentive, meeting or event while her intimate knowledge of Sydney's surrounds will ensure a bespoke and unforgettable yoga experience.
About Hatha Yoga Hatha yoga uses gentle stretching, set postures and breathing techniques to release tension, align the body and enhance energy flow. Relaxation techniques help settle the nervous system, calm the mind and improve immune system function.
Daily yoga practice is believed to have incredible benefits for the body including increased flexibility, overall massage of the internal organs, detoxification, muscle toning and a sounder sleep pattern.
Anyone can learn Hatha yoga and Skye can tailor the class to suit every fitness level, from beginners through to experienced yoga practitioners.
Focus on the breath is one of the distinguishing characteristics of Hatha yoga. In the eight limbs of yoga, the control of prana, or life force (known as pranayama) is closely tied to breathing practices. Throughout history and across the globe, the terminology for "breath" and "spirit" have been closely linked. An important aspect of the poses, breathing is also a practice in itself.
