Slim Secrets Bars

Not only do the Slim Secrets bars taste like a decadent treat and provide you with solutions to your snacking dilemmas, but they also have many added benefits.

A study by researchers in Australia, found that eating high-protein, low-carb snack bars between meals can successfully take the edge off the appetites of overweight women so that they eat less during lunch and dinner. The study found that women who ate the high-protein, low-carb snack bars, ate 5 percent fewer kilojoules (mostly as carbohydrates) during regular meals as a result. They also lowered their blood glucose and insulin profiles significantly (by 14 percent and 12 percent respectively).

The Mintabolism Boost bar packs a punch with green tea extract (concentrated tea) which contains antioxidants that come from polyphenols in the tea.

Studies have shown that green tea may help raise metabolic rates and speed up fat oxidation. Green tea is also a powerful antioxidant known to help reduce risk the risk of diseases such as cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure. It's also shown to help maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Benefits of Slim Secrets Bars include:

1. Contains Soy protein: which is

  • High in fibre

  • High in protein

  • Low in saturated fat

  • Cholesterol-free

  • Lactose-free

  • A good source of omega-3 fatty acids

  • High in phytoestrogens.
The suggested health benefits of whole soy foods include:

  • Lowered blood pressure

  • Soybeans are thought to be of some health benefit to menopausal women. Soybeans contain hormone-like substances called phytoestrogens ('phyto' means plant). More research is needed, but soybeans seem to offer promise in helping some women to manage menopausal hot flushes.

  • Improvements to blood vessels, such as greater elasticity of artery walls

  • Reduced risk of osteoporosis

  • Protection against various cancers, including those of the breast, colon, prostate and skin

  • Management of endometriosis

  • Soybeans have been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels as well as lipoproteins, both known risk factors for heart disease
2. Are Low Glycemic

Low glycemic foods are essential for lifelong health and can help you:

  • Lose weight: GI reflects the rate at which sugar is released into the bloodstream and the slower this occurs, the better. Foods with a low GI are digested slower and therefore leave you 'fuller' longer

  • Reduce your risk of heart disease

  • Improve your athletic performance

  • Manage diabetes

  • Achieve optimum health

  • Control blood glucose levels

  • Tackle syndrome X
3. Are High fibre

Keeps the digestive system healthy.

Eating a diet low in fibre can contribute to many disorders, including:

  • Constipation - small, hard and dry faecal matter that is difficult to pass

  • Haemorrhoids - varicose veins of the anus

  • Diverticulitis - small hernias of the digestive tract caused by long term constipation

  • Irritable bowel syndrome - pain, flatulence and bloating of the abdomen

  • Overweight and obesity - carrying too much body fat. In many cases, people who are overweight or obese have been shown to lose significant amounts of excess body fat simply by increasing the amount of dietary fibre, especially soluble fibre, in their daily diet Fibrous foods are often bulky and, therefore, filling. They also tend to be low in fat

  • Coronary heart disease - a narrowing of the arteries due to fatty deposits.

  • Diabetes - a condition characterised by too much glucose in the blood.

  • Colon cancer - cancer of the large intestine
4. Are lower in fat than most other chocolate bars

There is strong evidence that the high levels of fat consumed by most Australians are a major risk factor for conditions like gallbladder disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Furthermore, high levels of saturated fats, which are found in animal fats, high-fat dairy foods, tropical oils, and hydrogenated (solidified) vegetable oils, raise your cholesterol level and promote heart disease and strokes.

The benefits of a low fat diet not only include better health as shown here but also the added benefit of potential weight loss if combined with other positive actions such as exercise.

5. Wheat free

Many people today are being diagnosed as having an allergy to wheat protein. Slim Secrets bars are wheat free for this reason.

Slim Secrets BARS have received Halal Accreditation from The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils Inc.

Protein (both soy and whey)

Our designer cookies provide just the right amount of protein for a snack that will sustain you during your active, busy life. Protein is an important nutrient needed by the body on a daily basis.

We've chosen a blend of both soy protein and whey protein for our cookies.

Soy protein from food sources is approved by the FDA for heart health and some studies show that 25 grams per day may reduce cholesterol levels. In addition, the protein in these bars comes from soy crisp and soy beans made from puffed milled rice and soy protein. The soy crisps add a slightly crunchy texture and protein to the cookies.

A soybean is a legume with high protein content. They contribute texture and flavour while adding complete protein with all essential amino acids to Slim Secrets.

Contains Soy Protein which is:

Whey protein

Whey protein is a very high quality complete protein with rich amounts of all the essential amino acids which are the "building blocks" for healthy bodies. Protein has a number of different roles including:

  • Repair body cells

  • Build and repair muscles and bones

  • Provide a source of energy

  • Control many of the important processes in the body related to metabolism
Fibre

Many women have a difficult time finding good sources of fibre and actually including sufficient amounts of fibre in their diets - Slim Secrets is a great solution. Fibre is defined as a carbohydrate that cannot be completely digested and is classified into soluble and insoluble; both are important to a healthy diet. Soluble fibre is found in fruits, nuts, vegetables, oats and more and has been proven to help reduce cholesterol while slowing digestion in the stomach keeping blood sugar levels consistent. Insoluble fibre helps keep the digestive system moving and can be found in whole wheat, wheat bran and many vegetables.

Both forms of fibre can be found in Slim Secrets in our rolled oats, chia seeds, nuts, dried fruits, proteins and more!

Chia Seeds

We have also designed our cookies to include the revolutionary super food CHIA SEEDS. Chia Seeds are a great source of Omega-3 & Omega-6 essential fatty acids!

These seeds are perfect for the weight conscious.

Chia Seeds are also very beneficial to the heart and extremely high in fibre, calcium, high quality protein, slowly processed carbohydrates and loaded with vitamins & minerals and antioxidants!

Rolled Oats

Oats are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fibre. Oats supply many nutrients including vitamin E, zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium. Oats are also a good source of protein.

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Soybeans are thought to be of some health benefit to menopausal women. Soybeans contain hormone-like substances called phytoestrogens ('phyto' means plant). More research is needed, but soybeans seem to offer promise in helping some women to manage menopausal hot flushes.

  • Protection against various cancers, including those of the breast, colon, prostate and skin

2. Chia Seeds

We have also designed our bars to include the revolutionary super food CHIA SEEDS.

Both forms of fibre can be found in some of our Slim Secrets products in rolled oats, chia seeds, nuts, dried fruits, proteins and more!

4. Cranberries

Cranberries and cranberry products offer many important health benefits. Historically, Native Americans used cranberries to relieve a variety of ailments. Today's health research points to promising new evidence that cranberries are not only a healthy, low-calorie fruit; they may also help prevent urinary tract infections and reduce the risk of gum disease, ulcers, heart disease and cancer. Research on these areas and on additional health benefits is ongoing.

5. Nuts

Known in nutritional circles as the King of the Nuts! Almonds are alkaline, with a high mineral content (containing as much calcium as milk, high in magnesium, too). They pack 1/3 more protein than eggs and are rich in vitamin E. With manganese and copper- essential cofactors for SOD, they contribute to the production of an enzyme that inhibits free radicals in cells. Walnuts are rich in Omega 3's, and have been shown to help maintain heart health. No surprise that they look like "little brains," as they have been shown to contribute to brain functioning. Most recently, these mighty powerhouses have been linked to lower total cholesterol levels- and, more importantly, reduced LDL (or "bad" cholesterol) levels.

5. Peaches

Diets rich in potassium may help to maintain healthy blood pressure. Fruit sources of potassium include bananas, prunes and prune juice, dried peaches and apricots, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and orange juice.

Now for the fun facts! When it comes to benefiting your skin peaches are an excellent source of antioxidants. Research shows that antioxidants can protect skin from damaging UV rays by counteracting free radical activity. Recent studies have also shown that the epidermis is able to absorb vitamins and nutrients from topically applied liquid juice solutions, greatly benefiting the strength, elasticity and general appearance of the skin. Facial formulas of olden days instinctively utilized this knowledge, and fresh fruits and vegetables were often included in recipes. In fact, the term "peaches and cream skin" came from a technique used generations ago by women who combined mashed peaches and fresh cream as a facial mask. The mixture made the skin lush and beautiful, and the term was born. For that famous peaches and cream complexion.

6. Apples

Dried apples are healthy snacks with good sources of carbohydrates, dietary fibre, very low in fats and absolutely no cholesterol. Apples are good sources of phytonutrients, like flavonoids. They are also a good source of both insoluble and soluble dietary fibre. It adds roughage to the contents of the intestines, promotes satiety, promotes the health of the colon, and also helps in relieving constipation, haemorrhoids, diverticular disorders, etc.

Convenient gym bag sized bottle, packed with 14.5g whey protein, lower than a bench press in fat, naturally sweetened with stevia (our top secret formulation!!) and less than 65 calories, your waist will smile with appreciation of all your efforts. Just add water or milk, shake to your favourite tune on your ipod and voila... your protein is served!

Three wickedly tasty flavours to choose from: Honeycomb, Heavenly Chocolate and Creamy Berries.

Why is protein an important part of your diet?

Protein / "Proteios" – from the Greek word meaning "of prime/first importance".

We're working longer, playing less but somewhere we manage to fit in exercise. Exercise is fuel for the mind, as well as for the body but what exactly is the building block of the human body? Protein! 20 amino acids make up protein and each of them has a specific task to be carried out in the body, yet only 11 are manufactured by the body (non-essential amino acids), the other 9 (essential amino acids) must be obtained by outside food sources.

Beans, nuts, lean meat, eggs, soybeans, legumes and dairy food are all excellent sources of protein and eating a wide variety of foods that include some of these will not only benefit your waistline but also provide you with your protein intake.

The benefits of protein are plentiful – it’s no wonder it’s a healthy person’s best friend.
  1. Boosts energy levels before training and aids in the recovery after intense training and workouts;

  2. Provides energy both immediately and long term;

  3. Assists in maintaining lean body mass;

  4. Reduces soreness in muscles and repairs muscles and tissues;

  5. Can assist in stabilising blood sugar levels;

  6. Provides a feeling of satiety (feeling full) which means you will eat less;

  7. Keeps your immune and nervous systems functioning properly; and

  8. Transports bodily fluids.
The purest form of protein available, whey, is sometimes referred to as the "golden" protein. It is unequalled as a source of essential amino acids and actually contains all of the 20 amino acids, therefore it is what is termed ‘naturally complete’. Whey is metabolised directly into the body tissue and is the first protein called upon to repair and refuel when stocks are low. This can be from illness, lethargy or more commonly from extended periods of exercise and exertion. Being a fast protein, it is absorbed easily and effectively, providing immediate nourishment where it’s needed most. Whey protein contains the amino acid leucine, which promotes lean body tissue and muscle repair. It is one of the essential amino acids which means it must be supplied through dietary sources. It is often the leading ingredient in protein powder supplements given its bioavailability and absorption to the body and the unsurpassed health benefits to athletes and the weight conscious.

Acai berry has been described as a "super food" and deservedly so. Originating from the Amazon forest, the acai berry contains very high levels of antioxidants, an array of vitamins (B1, B2, B3, C, E) and minerals (calcium, potassium) and the goodness of omega fats.

Also rich in antioxidants is green tea extract. A staple of Chinese and Indian diets for many years, the health benefits include improving cardiovascular circulation, increasing metabolism and reducing LDL ("bad" cholesterol).

Stevia is the wonder sweetener that originated in South America hundreds of years ago. It is a completely natural sweetener derived from the stevia rebaudiana plant and is 300 times stronger than sugar. Containing zero calories, stevia does not adversely affect blood sugar levels and can be enjoyed by diabetics as a sugar and artificial sweetener alternative.
