My name is Somer Cross and I am an internationally certified Yoga and Pilates Instructor. I am also a Thai Massage Therapist with an internationally recognised certificate affiliated with the International Thai Massage School Chiang Mai. I hold my Certificate III & IV in Fitness specialising in Yoga and Pilates, First Aid and CPR.
I attended my first yoga class in 2000 and instantly noticed how calm my mind and soul became and the peace I felt inside and how this calm and peace started to filter into my everyday life. The ancient teachings of Yoga truly resonate deep inside, living a life of truth, with love and compassion, non judgment and non violence.
Having never experienced a pilates class, I was intrigued, and took my first pilates class in 2008 and instantly realised how weak my core strength was. Being a naturally flexible person, I began practising pilates regularly and have had to work hard to improve my all over body strength. I was amazed at the physical transformation within a short period of time and the benefits it brought to my yoga practice - pilates, a perfect compliment to yoga.
Having worked as a personal assistant in a legal office for 16 years and feeling lifeless, stuck between beige walls, my first guru Michelle Merrifield came into my life and the opportunity presented itself to learn under Michelle's encouragement, love and guidance at the Essence of Living Academy. I have grown in so many ways since starting my practice, physically, mentally and emotionally!
I am truly blessed and excited to be able to share my passion with others. I hope to see you on the mat soon - feel, see, become transformed!

YOGA/PILATES FUSION is a fusion of the ancient discipline of yoga with the modern pilates techniques, the exercises mix both disciplines to develop core strength, help tone muscles, increase flexibility and reduce stress. Yoga focuses on flexibility, then strength. Pilates focuses on stability, then strength and flexibility. Pilates helps develop a stable core sometimes taken for granted in yoga classes. People who have complained about hurting themselves in a yoga class perhaps did not have the core development to move through the various postures, or to pull as far as they pushed. Combining the two disciplines of 'yoga' and 'pilates' is ideal - they are the perfect compliment to each other.
THAI MASSAGE aka Lazy Man's Yoga is ideal for maintaining agility through the body’s aging process. It increases overall health, vitality and sense of well-being as well as opening, exercising & toning all the systems of the body leaving you feeling rested and revitalised, relaxated and stretched, stress free. Thai massage is done fully clothed with no oils.
